A psychological thriller, the story is not so far removed from the slasher films of the 80s, without the gratuitous violence and body count, and much better acting, dialogue and style, featuring a memorably creepy score, I had heard of this film but watched it knowing nothing else about it, Jane Fonda won a well deserved Oscar with scenes of stunning acting, Donald Sutherland is always good and I was pleasantly surprised to see Roy Scheider show up. 9/10

9/10. Sutherland and Fonda at the peak of their careers; it doesn't get any better than this.

7. As a thriller it’s pretty good; as a character study it’s great, with Fonda sensational.
