Those PSAs are so laughable now. They might as well have said Please stand up and receive the radiation. You're dead anyways. there's nothing that can save you except if you had advance warning that allowed you time to get in to a prebuilt bunker that has sufficient goods that allow you to live there for a few weeks.

That was really a great advertisement and a great way for school kids to deal with a nuclear attack. The beloved cartoon character Bert the Turtle was an excellent choice and I commend the the producers and creators of Duck and Cover for their sagacity in choosing Bert. Scientists tell us that turtles would easily survive an Atomic War just as their ancestors shrugged off the Chicxulub meteor that marked the end of the Cretaceous Period some 65 million years ago. The much hyped dinosaurs all perished in that ancient cataclysm and so did the vastly overrated mosasaurs, ammonites and pterosaurs. To the stolid turtles the K-T event was just another day, one quickly forgotten. The narrator for Duck and Cover was Robert Middleton, a great actor of the 1950s and 60s. Now do you remember him? Sure you do. He generally played slimy gangster types though he progressed into malevolent evilness in The Desperate Hours, a great flick alongside Humphrey Bogart, Fredric March and Ray Collins (Lt. Tragg on Perry Mason). And yes, Robert Middleton did appear on Perry Mason and of course The Untouchables. Robert Middleton also appeared on The Rebel, starring Nick Adams, the greatest actor of the 1960s. Middleton's character took hostages, just like on The Desperate Hours. THE REBEL - THE ROAD TO JERICHO - Season Two - Episode Twenty-Three

THE REBEL - THE ROAD TO JERICHO - Season Two - Episode Twenty-Three I like him when he's somewhat of a good guy. My favorite of him in a role is THE LAW AND JAKE WADE. I always get a kick out of seeing him in those old Westerns.

when the wall almost went across kennebunkport
in the year two thousand and forty five when our entire nation was barely being being kept alive by hookers and addicts alike the great wall of freedom fries had just crossed the continental divide and was working its way up the eastern side when a crumpet party was insanely interrupted by the echoing sound of a jack hammer corrupted so the whole project was instructed to shut itself down because the town of kennebunkport ain't fooling around even if the aforementioned hookers are all down to clown.

This year, a new "duck and cover" instructional video is due to come out, using computers underneath the desks to hide behind. There's a special knack for doing this.
