Apparently they are based in the UK and so it is already the 20th their time. I did not realize that. I stopped posting there about a week ago though because I felt it was pointless if it was all about to end anyway. I didn't know that IMDB is based in the United Kingdom. I thought that they were based in California. The IMDb was founded by Col Needham in the UK in 1990 and has been owned by Amazon since 1998. Amazon is based in Seattle, WA and the time stamp on posts on the boards was the Pacific time zone (Seattle time), but Col Needham is still the CEO and he still lives in England. So I guess he shut the boards down right around or a little after midnight on Feb 20th England time, which would have been about 7 pm Eastern time. I left the house around 7 eastern and they were still up. I got home at 8:30 and they were redirecting to getsatisfaction.com's IMDb board. I see from some of the other posts that they went down about an hour or so before that.

I stopped posting there about a week ago though because I felt it was pointless if it was all about to end anyway. I didn't know that IMDB is based in the United Kingdom. I thought that they were based in California. I live in Texas. The time zone that was listed in IMDB message board posts was two hours behind my time zone. For example, a post from 2:00 AM central time would show up as being from 12:00 AM pacific time. I wish that they would have been specific about what time they were going to close the message boards. I knew they were but forgot about it. I used to contribute heavily there but I slacked off after 2014. I forgot which year it was but on the Contributor's Help board there was a thread (maybe more) that mentioned all of the operations were going to be located in the UK. So, staff based in the US were being let go, if I recall correctly but I'm not positive about that. I just recall one particular staff member, Jon, that was based in California that would be able to respond to Contributor's questions in a reasonable amount of time if he could help. When they moved everything to the UK initially, response time for help was pretty terrible. Contributors were a bit pissed, especially the long-time contributors. I've been a member since January 2003 but used the site as far back as 1996 but not the message boards. Back then, I recall the subdomain address for the US was us.imdb.com/ and there were other subdomains for other countries until they redireted to imdb.com.

A bunch of the boards couldn't be accessed even yesterday. Tools. Right! For me, access cut off 3 days ago with not being able to access threads, or if I got thru then couldn't reply. That "D'oh!" message stopped being cute and started to make me want to reach thru the screen and strangle Homer! Maybe that was their way of weaning members before last call -- which at best was arbitrarily conducted. They could have had the courtesy to give the time zone they were going to go by. Boo! I wish there were a place that all the devotees could turn to to release their frustration. I vowed to boycott but I'm sure my current ire will give way to the urge to turn to it for the trivia & cast sections. Dangit! Besides, I ain't quitting Amazon, the putative leader (and I believe their takeover was the impetus for the ban on speech). I tried the Rotten Tomatoes site but it seemed a paltry substitute. Cant believe I'll miss being tagged a Libtard, just one last time...sniff... Good times.... Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue...

"Whose was it?" "His who is gone." "Who shall have it?" "He who will come." ... "What shall we gave for it?" "All that is ours." "Why should we give it?" "For the sake of the trust." For some reason, this was the first thing that came to mind after hearing and seeing this news. Ah! I have deleted my account, having saved the most important posts. I was only on the site for a short time, but I met some very good people and had a good many questions answered--and had numerous laughs about the ol' "Singer in Sleuth" mystery! It really is too bad, but with hope we will have a good time here. Shanith, shanith, shanith. (I suppose I'm in the poetical mood at the moment.) P.S. Bragging privileges to the first person who, without the help of Google (or any source on the Internet--no splitting hairs!), knows the source of quotations (the "Whose was it?" ones, that is) above! Abbott & Costello. And Who's on First. Duh.

Under the Community tab on IMDb, they removed the "message boards" listing just now, as I was looking at it.

That's a joke, right? (If it's not, sorry, I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but it's not "Who's on First?") This being a film forum, perhaps I should have included the version from the film adaptation. "Who first shall find it were better dead. "Who next shall find it perils his head. "The last to find it defies dark powers, "And brings good fortune to Hurlstone Towers. "Where was the light? "On the face of the messenger. "Where did he speed? "To guard the Queen's page. "What then advanced? "The Bishop's page, rashly. "And who to repel? "The King's cautious page. "And then the disaster: "Page slaughters page. "Who came then to slay him? "The bloodthirsty Bishop. "Where shall he go? "Deep down below." That'll probably give it away. Admittedly, I thought the original fit better the topic.

They did lie. The boards were shut down hours before the 20th. Here's a site that archived some screen shots. imdbmessageboards.tumblr.com/The wayback machine might have some up soon.

Sad new day. Goodbye IMDB. The loss is immeasurable. I was shocked to go over there, only to find them gone a day early. They could've had the decency to wait until it was the 20th in all time zones. It would not surprise me if they got some cruel perverse pleasure from yanking the boards early. They probably enjoyed reading all our petitions and posts not to close. Really sad.

Here's a site that archived some screen shots. imdbmessageboards.tumblr.com/The wayback machine might have some up soon. www.moviechat.org/This site captured a whole bunch if not all the movie boards, up to a little over a week ago. Type in the movie name, select it, and you will get the posts. Not perfect, but at least it's there, and the guy is working on it all the time.
