Judas Priest's "British Steel" Two great albums. Iron Maiden's debut is my second favorite of theirs and British Steel is Priest's best imo.

Both classics. I have them both rated 8/10, though if forced I'd probably take British Steel, if only because I prefer Dickinson-era Maiden.
I know for many metalheads it's cool to hate on British Steel because it was Priest's commercial breakthrough, but other than the awful United most everything else on that album is classic Priest and nowhere near as commercialized as their next album or Turbo. Rapid Fire was about as fast and furious as anything they'd released to that point, and Metal Gods, Breaking the Law, Grinder, Rage, and Steeler all slap hard. If anything, British Steel just pales a bit coming on the heels of their flawless 70s catalog (especially Stained Class, which is their best album IMO), and just before the superior Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith.

Remember seeing them so many times that year, played a lot at the Marquee to a few hundred folk and had the crappiest special effect you've ever seen (a bit of smoke coming out of a sign with Iron Maiden on it and a picture of the Eddie mascot who's mouth the smoke whisper through) Def Leopard were always on as well but were complete light weights (on through the night was just coming out). Di'Anno was the perfect blend of punkiness with the metal and made it something difference. Had seen Dickinson with Samson a few times and never liked him so never saw Maiden again when he joined. The best of all those NWOBHM bands (and I must have seen them all) live were Diamond Head, never gave a duff show that I saw. Angel Witch and Preying Mantis were pretty decent too. Saw Priest at the Hammersmith Odeon on the British Steel tour, but I preferred the older slightly provide "Beyond The Realms Of Death" type stuff to the new "poppier" anthemic stuff they went for with British Steel.
