The Sleuth-singer-saga is what got me on the IMDb boards and, later, these boards to begin with—and now, believe it or not, that saga may be coming to a close. You can find the whole story at our INTK board, but basically the infamous, mysterious Sleuth singer may be music exec Don Percival, who sang the half-pseudo-Al-Bowlly, half-pseudo-Ink-Spots song “One More Kiss, Dear” in Blade Runner. For comparison: In all honesty, though, it’s a bit sad if this mystery ends… We’ve been searching for it for so long! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Nothing’s definite, but the news is exciting. Whether or not this is the solution, I’d like to thank everyone who’s expressed interest in the mystery over the course of 3 years, including paislene , mattjoes , carlcarlson1 , bartlesby , Carl LaFong , BATouttaheck , alfromni , jervistetch , Doghouse6 , teleadm , Prime etc. , The Herald Erjen , RiP, IMDb , Eva Yojimbo , Catman , and poelzig (and anyone I’ve missed). Thank you all, particularly those who have stuck by the saga through all twists and turns, through Graham Hartstone and Michael Feinstein and Really Useful Group and David Kernan. Hope this is it—but if not, the mystery will carry on! — Salzmank

There doesn't seem to be any credits on IMDb for this Don Percival. There is a Don Percival listed, but he's a cinematographer and appears to be the wrong Don. One has to wonder why such a professional lacks any kudos. ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/5hoy7902h/confused.gif) I fear the mystery will continue for yet a while.

Hey, Al… DP wasn’t a professional singer, he was a music exec and agent. He was just supposed to sing a demo for the Blade Runner song but ended up singing for the movie because composer Vangelis liked his rendition so much. His obituary here.

Probably a conflation of Percivals! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

NalkarjWith all that detail in the obit, one would certainly wish for a mention of the song S in Sleuth. BUT it definitely established that he was an experienced jazz singer so there is that !

Certainly sounds like similar voices, but the singing in "One More Kiss" seems to be somewhat strained in places, and not as smooth as in the Sleuth track. However, the 10 year difference could explain that. Percival doesn't get IMDb credited in Blade Runner either. Somebody please get in touch with Michael Caine! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

IMDb seems to be more careful about rejecting fuzzy images than they are about fact checking

Possible, though it looks like Phonogram had nothing to do with Sleuth or with Palomar Pictures. That said, I have found (tenuous, admittedly) connections b/w Percival himself and Sleuth: he was friends with a Warner Bros. exec (the Sleuth songs were “by arrangement with Warner Bros. Publishing”), and some of the music for Blade Runner was recorded at Pinewood Studios, where Sleuth was filmed. ( BR, though, was shot at Shepperton Studios.) Am trying to keep all the mystery-investigating to the INTK thread, though… Intended this thread just as a thank-you to everyone who’s helped over the years (including you, Al).

This is the good news the world has been waiting for. (Well, at least I have.) Our long national nightmare is over. Brilliant work, Salzmank. I’m praying that your findings are confirmed. They should make a movie about you and this whole sprawling mystery. They could call it SLEUTH and they could get what’s-his-name to sing on the soundtrack.

’Course! Not sure I see anything there, unfortunately… Looks like “Esper Productions” was actually a bootleg version of the score. On that front, though, Blade Runner’s soundtrack was released by Warner Music, and the Sleuth songs, infamously, were “by arrangement with Warner Bros. Publishing.”

Now, I can’t be sure yet…though it seems likelier and likelier the more I look into it. Sadly, poor Don Percival isn’t around to sing in this version of Sleuth, being, well, dead and all, but maybe we can hire another mysterious music exec who’s not known as a singer to sing three Cole Porter songs, and maybe down the road someone called Zankslam will post on whatever the future’s version of a message board is about who sang the songs in that movie… ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)
