Those who are new to this?
Some years back I used to work from home for myself but I was a student then. Now that I am in full-time employment I am finding this work from home very stressful. I am a financial analyst and my company asked me around a month back to start working from home. Then I thought, wow, I have hit a jackpot. I will finish my day's work in just 4 hours and watch more and more movies and study books. That day I felt it would be a break from hardships of 9 hours Mon-Fri office job.
But how wrong could I have been? Now the life seems totally changed. I have to work about 10 hours (instead of 9) or sometimes even more because in the office I worked with dual monitors and at home I work with a laptop. And I have to get in video conferencing so often instead of booking a meeting room in office. Now I do not have much of breaks during work hours. In office I would take frequent tea or coffee breaks and a big lunch break. I get more and more phone calls from colleagues/juniors/seniors because everyone needs to meet the target. And I am getting bored because office was fun. Home not so much.
Please share your experience of working from home.

I've worked from home in this job and my prior job, so it's not new to me. I'm getting bored being stuck in the house, though. I get up, have breakfast, wash my face, brush my teeth, and log on. Do some work. Then shower. CLean up the kitchen. Do some more work. Do a few pieces of the jigsaw puzzle on the dining room table. Do some more work. Have lunch. Play some games. Do some more work. I might have a couple of conference calls as well. I miss having people around.

Its not bad. I've worked from home at this job a bit... but this time they sent me a nice big monitor to work on which is pretty sweet.(instead on working on the small laptop screen alone) ...also they're being real flex when I work and shit. Unless I have a zoom meeting or a phone call...its just like..whatever, get it stuff done by this date. I have a kid, I've been looking after him more during the day...my wife's been kinda stressed with her job lately, doing a lot more shit and meetings and calls than me. I'm actually surprised I still have my job....the company I work for is struggling pretty bad. Kinda just waiting for it to happen....I'd be full time dad for a while xD

People whining about being stuck in the house are what makes me mad. I worked from home just fine. Now I don't have a job. And, my life is no different now - minus the paycheck.
Sick of hearing about people who can't go out and get drunk, or go sleeping with strangers, or whatever they are whining about. Some people lived responsible lives and worked from home, and still did none of your "fun". Yet here I am. No job, no paycheck. And still get to listen to the whining. About what? Not being able to go out and party?

But that's not what I miss. I just miss the socializing with friends and coworkers. Doing this stuff over the computer isn't the same. We did take a walk on Tuesday (I think it was Tuesday) . . . and met some friends while on the walk. We conversed about 50 feel apart. Still, it was nice being with two other people, despite the distance.

I have been working from home for just about a month now. I initially thought.....this is gonna be great!
I won't have my hour commute to work, and hour commute home from work each day. As such, I won't be putting as many miles on my car as I would, as well as I wouldn't be spending as much on fuel. I would typically fill up twice a week. At $40.00 a fill-up, it adds up over time. Then again, the gas prices have dropped significantly. Without the commute, I haven't been using my car as much to take advantage of the low price on fuel.
As well, since I don't have the commute, I can sleep in a little bit each morning. I decided to keep my hours the same as if I were going to the office. I'd like to keep that routine in check.
Having said that:
I miss the social interaction among my colleagues at the office. We would talk about all sorts of things, whether it would be sports, music, TV....you get the idea.
I mean, yes - I can reach out to them via email or phone, but it's not the same. I had a video-conference call last week where the manager hosted it. Basically, it was a virtual reality meeting - much like our weekly meetings, but over the computer.
And since I'm not going out as much, I feel like I'm cooped up in the house. I do have to get out occasionally - just to get some fresh air.

Most people cannot work from home. I think it’s a very small percentage that can.

Nora I am sorry about replying late to your post (was working when I had checked it) - What makes it tougher for me? One is not having dual screens. Second is the many different video meetings that happen on zoom. I am fed up of them. It's like 90 mins everyday. The many questions that I get from my colleagues and juniors - I love them so I cannot stop helping them. But helping others stuck on a problem means I myself get less time for doing my allocated work and thus I have to exceed my work hours to finish my work. Also, I am always charged when in office. I speak a lot and share laughs with my friends. That gives me a lot of motivation. It's difficult to do that during this lockdown. I like that you enjoy working from home and I also liked that you frequently change your job/self employment. It is good to do as one likes.

Not too bad. Just wish I had a paycheck Yeah, that would be tough. Are you getting unemployment? Trying to but it's a whole mess I have to sort out and I can't get through by phone because there's 10's of thousands of people all trying to get through. Hopefully by the end of the month it'll get settled

Joker's Wilde haha...it seems your story and experiences are similar to mine. At first it seemed like it would be so good. But that social interaction part that you mentioned is what became the main issue. I now realise just how much I love my colleagues. They make job life so much more worthwhile.

Most people cannot work from home. I think it’s a very small percentage that can. I agree. Many people can only do work in a place dedicated for the work. Work from Home is for those who can somehow do their work on computer and give ideas to their employers like marketing people etc.
