I don't have any answer, but only a few suggestions that might be interesting to look up. Two forgotten crooners, Gene Austin and Russ Columbo. It can also be some temporary soloist in some orchestras of yore, like Guy Lombardo's Royal Canadians, or since the movie is British, Geraldo or Jack Hylton orchestras.

Thanks, teleadm. The majority of musical experts to whom I've spoken are pretty sure the songs were done specially for the movie, but I'll check up on these suggestions, absolutely. Thanks again!

teleadm and anyone else who may be interested... News, just in case someone here hasn't seen the INTK board... I sent "American Songbook" singer Michael Feinstein an e-mail, and now he and a whole host of Facebook commenters are looking into the "singer in Sleuth" mystery. (I don't have a Facebook account, or else I'd reach out and respond to the people there.) Probably the closest we're going to come to an answer--if Feinstein and those commenters are unable to find it, I doubt anyone will. No more news from Feinstein, sadly.
I've just about given up hope for this one.
