It was not a road, and it was not made of silk. Okay, hopefully most of you knew that already. I did. However, this is still an edifying and thought-provoking presentation. We don't know the names of the people who worked the Silk Road. They left no great monuments or great works of literature or anything like that, but they definitely had an impact on the world. International trade of the present owes quite a bit to the Silk Road.

It was the German geologist Ferdinand von Richthofen who gave the trade route the name The silk road in 1877, His nephew was Manfred von Richthofen who is better known as The Red Baron.
Anyway The Silk Roads: A New History of the World by Peter Frankopan is a good book to read about the subject.

Today, the best we could come with was a dark website for illicit drugs.
