I'd like to see Ted Baxter as the press secretary for the current president.

Ted's most famous movie role was as a cop who is seen standing briefly in the doorway of the room where Norman Bates is being held at the very end of "Psycho."

I'd like to see Ted Baxter as the press secretary for the current president. and using Ted Knight's birth name Tadeusz Wladyslaw Konopkaso that the Current POTUS would have to say it !

But Ted Knight played the role to perfection 6 Emmy Nominations with Two wins / 2 Golden Globe Nominations.
Jack turned down the role of Ted but guest starred as Ted Baxter's brother, Hal.

I've always thought that a lot of Steve Martin's comic mannerisms were somewhat inspired by the Ted Baxter character that Ted Knight played.

I need to see more of Knight to make a guess.

Good actor. His goofy Ted Baxter made him primarily a comic actor, and though he was classically trained he seldom got s chance to show it. Ted Knight was so good at comedy that to see him in some old TV show or movie renders the scene comical rather thsn dramatic, as one can see in Psycho. Now imagine if he'd been cast as the shrink in that movie, in the role Simon Oakland played.
