He’s great in The Ballad of Cable Hogue and a small role in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Seems to be fine actor in a technical sense, also a likeable presence as well.

anyone feel a certain way about the dude. That's funny, I just watched "The St. Valentine Day Massacre" today. It was not my day to get to pick out the movie. I thought the movie and Robards' performance were broad to the point of being cartoonish. Sometimes I don't mind him, but he has never been a favorite.

I just saw The St Valentine’s Day Massacre. Very talented actor. He also looks a little like Humphrey Bogart.

He is great in comic roles in "A Big Hand For The Little Lady" (1966) and A Thousand Clowns (1965) and deep drama like the 1960 TV special of O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh with Robert Redford on the left and Once Upon A Time In The West (1968)

When he made Murders in the Rue Morgue he got depressed and the director asked him what was wrong-he said Herbert Lom has the better part. The director said, you were the main star, you could have taken any part you wanted!
