The 12-Step Garth Game Program
************************************************************************
01) THE INTRODUCTION:
This game will be very complex -- and you can make BOOK on that!
________________________________________________________________________
02) THE SONG: (Vocals by Frank Sinatra)
No one asked but I checked out a BOOK
And that is how the idea for this Quiz took
But the Board discovers as Garth Game ends
Why my Library no longer lends
____________________________________________________________________________
03) THE QUOTE:
"I've got deviants to see and a NOVEL to finish."
--- 'Ms. Perky' (Allison Janney) in 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU
**********************************************************************************
04) THE SET-UP:
--- Alphabetically and numerically listed below in BLUE are 100 career OSCARED (Winning or Nominated) FILMMAKERS.
--- Two of them can be linked in a unique way.
--- Both have directed (one each) two THEATRICAL FILMS that were based on two different NOVELS written by the same AUTHOR.
--- Some Film Titles may be different than the Book Titles.
--- The two Initials of each AUTHOR are helpfully included at the bottom -- First (or Prominent) and Last Initials only.
--- Examples: Novelist Ben Ames Williams = 'BW' /Author W. Somerset Maugham = 'SM'
__________________________________________________________________________
05) THE CHALLENGE:
--- Match the two FILMMAKERS, identify the SHARED AUTHOR, and name the two FILM TITLES.
--- A posting Example is offered below.
--- Just ONE response per post, and only THREE consecutive guesses before another Player participates.
--- Duplicate correct posts will be determined by the earlier time stamp.
--- Both LINKING DIRECTORS will be reunited in RED when solved, along with the AUTHOR and the clever player who matched them.
--- Theatrical Feature Films only ... no TV-Movies allowed in here.
--- Scores will appear below in PURPLE.
***************************************************************************
06) THE EXAMPLE:
104. CLINT EASTWOOD / 116. MARTIN SCORSESE
Place both NUMBERS and the SHARED NOVELIST in the Message Box first.
Ex.: 104/116 -- DENNIS LEHANE
Place the two FILM TITLES and both DIRECTORS (Full Names, please) in the Message Box second.
Ex.: MYSTIC RIVER (Clint Eastwood) / SHUTTER ISLAND (Martin Scorsese)
(Helpful Novelist Initials: 'DL')
__________________________________________________________________________
07) THE EQUATIONS:
a) Questions -- 30% Easy / 30% Challenging / 30% Difficult / 10% Impossible
b) Answers -- 99% Absolutely Accurate / 01% Garth Gaffe (Advance Apology Extended)
08) THE NOTATIONS:
NTA = 'Not the Answer' / KP = 'Keep Pursuing' (on the right track) / QS = 'Quit Searching' (on the wrong path)
** PLAYER NAME!! = D-D-C MEMBERSHIP POST / LLS = Last Link Standing (Final Answer)
09: THE STATISTICS:
100 LINKING DIRECTORS / 50 SHARED AUTHORS / 100 FILM TITLES
___________________________________________________________________________
10) THE QUIZMASTER'S MANIFESTO:
--- Except for warm welcomes to incoming players and helpful hints for incorrect responses, the QM may not always respond to every post.
--- Not being unfriendly ... just utilizing the time more efficiently by keeping the Scoreboard U-T-D (up-to-date).
--- Besides, it's just too boring to keep responding 'Yes' to every answer ... and too many posts may scare off potential players.
--- The Scoreboard will tell the tale ... but be patient about those U-T-Ds as the QM thinks and types slowly.
--- You want them fast or accurate? (I don't do both)
--- Comments on Correct Answers (always a Player's first, and sometimes after several attempts) will be entered ALL IN CAPS!!!
--- Only one matchup can be correct (MINE! ... it's good to be the Quizmaster) in order to avoid creating orphaned answers.
--- When traffic is heavy, Scores will be entered in groups of five ... and incorrects (NTAs and Halfers) will be bundled.
--- IMPORTANT: Do not return to correct a previous post ... this vehicle cannot make U-turns.
