Here in Louisiana we have awesome fruit farms that we go to every year....especially strawberries & blueberries.

I had my own patch and picked those strawberries
There was so much competition with slugs and birds we took them out after a year.
Snail bait and a screen over the top might help.
But I have never gone to one of those stands

Many times. I really enjoy picking them. I would eat some as I was picking them! A couple years ago I made strawberry jam out of the ones I picked.

We used to grow our own, but no matter what we ever did, they never got bigger than your little fingernail. So after several years of that, we said 'screw it' and just buy the huge ones at the store.

Yes, used to go all the time when I was a kid with my grandparents to the farms on the eastern end of Long Island. We also went peach picking too. We'd also buy other fruit and vegetables there that were already picked.

Did that as kids, then my dad planted rows of them in our garden. We froze strawberries every year. I grew them in our garden for several year, but never a big plot. My dad also built me a strawberry pyramid that worked great. Just enough to have fresh strawberries a few times a year.

I simply could not pick my own, I'm 80 years old and my back wouldn't allow stoop labor. Here in BC strawberries are grown all over the lower mainland, do you think I can buy BC berries? Forget it the stores only carry them from the US.
