Why’d they include Philip of Spain but not Empress Matilda? Probably because Matilda was never the Queen of England, Philip of Spain was the King of England by right of (his) wife, Matilda did manage to take power for about six months in 1141 after her half brother Robert of Gloucester captured King Stephen at Lincoln in February 1141, And she only called "Lady of the English" Now Matilda did try to get crowned in 1141 and the reason she was never crowned was because her attempt to be crowned at Westminster collapsed in the face of bitter opposition from the London crowds. So since she was never crowned that is probably why she is not included. There is no doubt in my mind that Stephen stole the throne from Matilda in 1135.
