They cast Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Tannis. I'll admit this ain't a bad cast for an Eli Roth movie.
I still doubt Eli will make it work.

Ok are we sure this is NOT a comedy? I'd be surprised if it wasn't. I mean, I only played part of the second game, but isn't there comedy in the first Borderlands?

Except for Claptrap I thought the game was meant to be taken seriously. I mean I only played a little bit of the first one and part 1 of Tales from the Borderlands and I always got the sense that the cel shadedness of the game made up for the seriousness. At least the tone felt very serious. If they’re going the comedy route though, why not just get James Gunn to direct like someone else suggested. Eli Roth just feels wrong for a Borderlands movie.

That's the most puzzling thing about this. Roth is not even a draw like he may had been fifteen years ago. Death Wish flopped and I think that Y/A movie (also starring Blanchett and Black, that's weird) flopped too. Scratch that last one, it broke even. Seriously?

Mind you I actually liked Death Wish and House With a Clock in its walls because they weren’t his usual Schtick. Glad that Roth is trying something new and not trying to do too many shock movies. What’s funny is Jack Black and Cate Blanchett were both in HWACIIW. Must have liked working with them. Was Roth ever a draw of a director? Every time a new movie he did came out, people usually shrugged it off. Maybe he thinks Borderlands will make him easy money. Again I’m hoping he’s a fan of the games and isn’t just doing this for the money. The cast is GREAT for this kind of movie.

I never got the impression you're supposed to take the Borderlands franchise seriously, it's full of pop culture references and has plenty of zaniness to it. With all these characters from the 1st game, it sounds like it'll be an adaption of that game.

Now Haley Bennett has joined the cast. She'll be playing a new character for the film though.

There’s a lot of things about this movie that doesn’t have me sold yet. I hope it’s great.

I don’t know if we should be expecting a good or bad movie. There’s definitely a lot of talent here for this to work, but Eli Roth does not impress me.

I really hope Roth is a fan of the games and isn’t just doing this for money. It's quite possible he's just serving as a director-for-hire. It is kind of a weird choice though. I'd had gone with someone such as Robert Rodriguez or Edgar Wright or Doug Liman instead if Gunn wasn't available.

Just saw this article on Screen Rant.
"Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford confirms the Borderlands movie isn't set in the video game universe but remains true to the characters."
This won't make the fans nervous at all.
