Ever. Feels like absolutely nothing until the last ten minutes. All the characters except Max were annoying.
Still will check out the sequels though

I liked it. You could tell they didn't have a lot of money to spend, but it kept me watching.

It's alright, but not as thrilling as Road Warrior or especially Fury Road.

It's rather bland if you see it after the Road Warrior.

Thought it was ok the first time I saw it, then rewatched it about a month ago and really enjoyed it.

I like it. It's a gritty Australian exploitation film made on a very low budget and a good appetizer for the far superior Road Warrior.

It's a pretty great cheap exploitation film. It took a while to fully appreciate it because for years you could only get hold of the version with terrible American dubbing.

Agreed, Mad Max is one of the most boring movies I've ever forced myself to sit through. I love Road Warrior and Fury Road though.

I’ve always liked it. It’s very different from the sequels in that society isn’t totally lost yet. I like the villains in this one about as much as any Mad Max film, Toecutter and Bubba Zanetti in particular.

Don't troll on Mad Max (1979), you know it's great.

I still really like it. The town setting was interesting even before the apocalypse. It works as an origin story.

I didn't care much for it, although it was watchable. I'd still rank it above Thunderdome and Fury Road (the latter may be one of the most inexplicably overpraised films of the last few years imo). Mad Max 2 is the clear standout of the franchise, a terrific movie.

I think you're right.
The first time I watched it, I was terribly bored. The next time, I saw the characters a bit more, but they were still annoying and boring.
I do think the production team tried to make the characters different. The three bad guys they spent the most time on, though, were still annoying, but more than that, they were out of synch. On one hand they were spoiled brats who couldn't whip their way out of a wet paper sack. On the other hand, they were tough motorcycle savages who couldn't be spoiled rich kids.
I think the writer tried to convey that they began as spoiled rich kids who evolved into this gang. The "blond scholar thug" seemed to indicate this. He seemed to be based a bit on Peter Brown's scholar thug of KITTEN WITH A WHIP. The result of being a "rebel without a cause" gone haywire.
The characters were annoying, though. The gang members were as self righteous as extremist Republicans and Democrats we see today in the U.S., so does that make them credible? More likely, since these kind of characters have been in Hollywood movies so often, it's these movies that created the mind set for extremists.
Yep, maybe truer to life now, but about characters that are dull and uninspired. Says a lot about the U.S., and other countries who model themselves after Western culture. Those people are also boring and uninspired.

I thought Mad Max was just OK, but yeah The Road Warrior is a hell of a lot better.

I enjoyed Mad Max, The Road Warrior not as much but it was ok, definitely enjoyed Beyond Thunderdome. Not seen Fury Road yet.

It grows on you. It’s more than the last ten minutes. The first chase, the interactions between the villains, the villains terrorising the town, the sleazy mechanic, the slimy lawyer, the oddball cops. It has great music and terrifying villains.
