Do you collect? My collection is pretty weak. The Crown Jewels are The Amazing Spiderman Omnibus Volumes 1 and 2 (which collect the first 60 or so Spideys from the SILVER (thank you, taylorfirst1 ) era). I also have The Wolverine (four issues where Wolvie is in Japan) and a few of The Uncanny X Men collections from when the series was semi-rebooted to include the more famous team members. These are all reprinted collections, not originals. I've always wanted more omnibuses from the Ditko era because I love his art style, but I never got around to getting them. The Fantastic Four omnibus is one I've had my eye on for years.

I have a pretty big silver and bronze age collection, and have been buying weekly since the late 80's. I stopped buying new stuff in the 90's...quality took a real dip in Marvel & DC. Got the bug again in the 2000s

I read comic books avidly, but I no longer collect them. Currently reading The Animal Man Omnibus... Oh yeah.

No i don`t. i have in fact never read Marvel comic in my life (or DC comic). I did use to collect comics but i collect Donald Ducks comics and Beetly Bailey comics back in the 90s early 2000s.
I used to have between 1500 and 2500 comics at one point, but i have gotten rid of most of it but i still have some comics between 200 and 300.
Superhero comics have for some reason never interested me, i like and liked watching Superhero movies and tv shows, but i have never had any interest for Superhero comics.

I hear this perspective more and more, and frankly, I find it somewhat distressing. Why do you think the films appeal to you, and not the source material? In many ways, people with your particular trajectory within the fandom are shaping what we see on screen.

And i don`t really know if i would like the source material or not because i have never read it. I think part of it could be that i prefer to watch action scenes moving and not just watch drawings of it. Not a very good answer i know, but its the answer i am giving.

I cannot remember if I read Marvel comics before I watched Marvel Super Heroes. That was in 1966 so I would have been 6 yrs old, right in there for early reading.
So I have loved Thor & Cap for decades. I also remember reading Superboy & Supergirl. Archies. Sabrina. Josie & the Pussycats.

No. I thoroughly enjoy the Marvel films (well, the good ones anyway), but have never collected any Marvel comics. I did receive the odd Marvel graphic novel collection as gifts years ago, but my comic book reading has always centred around Batman.

I read comic books avidly, but I no longer collect them. Currently reading The Animal Man Omnibus... Oh yeah. Hey Skully (can I call you Skully?), what is your favorite run from the Lee/Ditko era? As mentioned above, I have a few omnibuses of Lee/Ditko Spideys. Always wanted more from that era. Thought about getting either The Avengers, FantasticFour or Thor omnibuses. The writing, I hate to say, is certainly dated, but the art style is a BIG draw. I often leave my Spidey books on my coffee table open to a particularly good cover- which of course leads to me to screaming at guests to "Keep your sticky paws off my comic books, jerk ass!" -but they're fun to admire for days on end, especially since they feature all the iconic villains.

I love the Ditko/Lee era of Spider-Man, but I have to say that the silver/bronze age Spider-Man books - issues 39 through 123 in particular - are some of my favorite Spider-Man stories of all time. It's hard to tell who did what because several contributors were doing many jobs at the time (Lee, Conway, Romita Sr., and Kane), but everyone was firing on all cylinders. It's a bonkers run. The Green Goblin unmasks Peter, the Kingpin and Mary Jane are both introduced, Captain Stacey dies, and Norman Osborn also dies in one of the most poignant comic book stories ever written (putting aside the dated prose style). Doctor Octopus also has many sick stories in this run including the infamous "Doc Ock Wins!" issue. I would go for the Fantastic Four Omnibus next if I had to choose. If you're really into the art, and you have the funds to spare, you need to consider IDW's Artist Editions seriously. They're large-format books (and I'm not kidding) with scans taken from the original art. You won't get the same bang for your buck with regards to the quantity of content as the Omnibus series, but you WILL be knocked on your ass by the scale and beauty of these books.

Thanks Lord Death ManThere's a paperback that collects the death of Gwen Stacy, and I believe, the death of Cap Stacy as well. I've had my eye on it for a while. I also think there are Spidey omnibuses Vol 3-4 I should look into them as they feature the issues you mention. I always wanted to read the issue where Norman/Goblin dies by impaling himself with the glider.

Lots from the old days. I did get the 1-38 hard cover book for Spider-man just to have, I had many of them in reprint issues already. But I rarely look at my old comics. I looked at some things online in the Marvel Chronology Project to see what I had missed.
