"How do you explain all that slimy shit on the floor?" A small town and its citizens is about to get a nasty and slimy little surprise, when they are about to become ran down by an army of snails, with an incredible lust for human flesh!I knew I had seen it, at least once, but it is so long ago, that I had to bring it up once more, and, well, it did certainly not "disappoint". This "masterpiece" of cinema, is brought to you by none other than the guy behind another 80s "classic", Pieces (1982). I gotta admit, Slugs is not all up there with the unintentional comedy, or so I think, but still sure packs some very hiliarous movie scenes, and some, so ridiculous acted out, that, yeah, the whole cheese factor sure is strong at times. But, sadly, there is also a lot of rather boring and just long going "nothing" really happens, kind of stuff, and few of the characters are really not of much interest. However, those small slimy bastards, sure do cause quite the chaos in the film, where the special effects are very impressive and at times incredible nasty. Anyway, I got to say that the filmmakers must have their share of credit, as it would have been great to been among the meeting when this movie first got brought up, and how it all acted out, of course, we all know how it ended, as a movie were made out of it, but still, I would love to see the reaction of some of the people, hearing about this "gruesome" terrifying monster, that is just a bunch of ordinary snails, who goes on a total rampage of a small town. God, I love 80s b-movie cheese.

Man, I've got to see this one again. Haven't seen it since it was first released on VHS. I do remember enjoying it immensely, and regarded it as a fun, cheesy B-horror movie.
Love that poster art!

The greenhouse death scene is ripped off from FROGS, only it's more elaborately gory and has a blammo!!! finish. But both use the idea of someone being asphyxiated by toxic chemical fog while trying to rid themselves of pesky critters.
LOL, this one looks to be just about as cheesy as the unforgettable SQUIRM.

I need to see this again. They kept playing it on the U K Horror Channel for a couple of years. I like Shaun Hutson's book 'Slugs'.

Love that poster art!Yeah, I remember picking it up on DVD, (I think it was re-released through Midnight Madness collection, or something) and they used this striking artwork, and I just had to have it with me home.

Thanks for bringing up The Nest (1987) Toasted Cheese, as I have been meaning to give it a go, for a long time now, but I am thinking of doing exactly that, very soon. Love the poster artwork as well, and from thos few clips I have seen from the film, it sure looks like my kind of a film. I also agree with you on Jeff Lieberman's cult-movie Squirm, which surely is a very atmopsheric and at times, creepy movie.

Squirm - 76' is a creature feature classic. Plenty of atmosphere and a fun and likeable cast. Slugs - 88' has a lot of gloopy gory effects, but overall I find it pretty much underwhelming and hamfisted. The Nest - 87' is much better I find. About an infestation of flesh-eating cockroaches. Nice gooey effects in this one and better presentation.
Funny you should mention The Nest--I just watched it on local tv a couple of days ago. Nothing is more hair-raising than the thought of killer cockroaches I had never seen Slugs, but the scenes pictured do look pretty goofy, lol. Have you ever seen Frogs? Not actually a half bad little creepfest, and boasts latter-day Ray Milland giving one of his best patented cranky old fart performances.

I have on vhs.
I love Frogs. Saw it on t.v. when I was a kid and a couple of times since. Sam Elliot was always nice eye candy.
I liked "The Frogs". Good early 70s slightly campy horror.

I gave The Nest (1988) a watch last night, and it sure was at times quite the enjoyable b-movie "nature-strikes-back horror" title, and where you had this little seaside town that were getting ready for the big tourist season, but all of that changes when the news of a possible and very nasty looking cockroach infestation is about to strike hard, and surely one that is not of the "usual" kind of way.
Anyway, it all end up leading back to a rather shady corporation name known as INTEC, whom of course tries to cover it all up, and in the meantime the few citizens left alive must now find a way to battle it out against the huge army of flesh eating cockroaches, before it is all too late.
Well, I really enjoyed some of this Julie Corman produced horror movie, which I think had some very impressive special and make-up effects going on, both nasty and creative, but also sure memorable ones as well. While some of the pace and characters were a bit on and off for my part, I still tought it hold up most of the time. I also noticed that the whole evil INTEC scheme of things, kind of reminded me of that of the 1997 sci-fi horror film Mimic, where it was all planned out to create these "super" roaches who would go on and eat and destroy their very own, but I guess it backfired, big time and they did not die when the job was done, and instead ended up growing into a far more intelligent and dangerous species, that would now no longer just see the ordinary cockroach as an enemy, but everything and all, especially humans.
Anyway, I guess that pretty much is the closest to what Mimic and The Nest had in common, more or less, but still for such a possible small budget b-movie, I thought they handled it very well in this late 80s film. Also is sure did not hurt by having the always cute Lisa Langlois in one of the starring roles.

I enjoyed this and 1975's "Bug". Save for the scenes involving Kitty carnage. I think I watched "Slugs" on prime. (I think a cute little Dog gets killed?) These 3 movies are Similar. I get them mixed up.

Slimy goodness! Saw it back in the 80's and rewatched it recently. You'll never look at slugs the same again...

Being a fan of Shaun Hutson, this was right up my street and, despite being set in the US rather than the UK, follows the book pretty much scene for scene.
Hutson wrote a sequel - Breeding Ground - which I'd love to have seen made into a film. Basically, the slugs turn up in the big city (London) and also carry a disease which turn people into boil-covered maniacs. There's a scene early on involving a tramp meeting a sticky end that deserves to be put to film.
I also love Bug and The Nest, but Creepshow (final story) beats everything for full on roach horror
