In the space of one week, I'm floundering, as I'm considering some of the greatest actors of all-times in American sound cinema : Henry Fonda & James Stewart. Funny thing is, after watching a documentary suiggesting Carole Lombard was the most liked personality in Hollywood, I was left thinking the greatest of all-time had to be Clark Gable and my man Fredric March.
The plot thickens ... By the way, I worked with an English theatre obsessive who was reasonably well off, and he regularly recalled his greatest moment as seeing Jimmy Stewart live on a UK stage.

One of the great stars of movies. More versatile than first meets the eye, yet changing very little in his movie persona. The kind the don't make anymore, and he was one of a kind. Jefferson Smith who went to Washington. George Bailey who finally found out that life is wonderful P.J. McNeal the persistent journalist. Lin McAdam with a certain rifle Buttons the Clown Dr. Benjamin "Ben" McKenna who knew too much Paul Biegler the small town lawyer Ransom Stoddard giving the Duke a punch so hi falls Family man Roger Hobbs who took a vacation Captain Frank Towns who landed in the Sahara desert John O'Hanlan and old pal Hank inheriting a brothel Dr E.W. Hostetler who have to tell the Duke that he has cancer. Elwood P. Dowd and many many more!
