Dan Hedaya played cranky barmaid Carla Tortelli's ex-husband Nick on the sitcom 'Cheers'. This century, he worked on the controversial television show 'The Book Of Daniel' which was effectively blacklisted on grounds of blasphemy following complaints, leading to its cancellation.
He also portrayed President Richard Nixon in one of my favourite comedy films, 'Dick' (1999).

Always a favorite in the soooooo wonderfully weird type character actor category.
A pleasure to watch, especially when he is being despicable !

Like in 'Clueless' (1995), where he plays strict father Melvin Horowitz, you end up really liking him when you realise he's just trying to do what's best for his daughter Cher. That's another of my favourite comedy films.

Hilarious as Tom Hank’s boss in “Joe vs. The Volcano” in the dimly lit office with the flickering florescent light.

Oh wow, that's another of my favourite comedy films. I wish Meg Ryan had received an Oscar nomination for her 3 performances in 'Joe Versus The Volcano' (1990).

Tortelli Television Hospital. Ten employees and two of 'ems American. Any movie with Dan Hedaya in it automatically gets an extra half star rating. It's the same with Harry Dean Stanton.
Sounds good.

Nick: "Say the word, Blondie, me and you could happen".
Diane: "I would rather be the sex slave of an entire Greek Army regiment".
Nick: "Who wouldn't? There's no point dreaming about it".

He’s a loathsome character whenever I saw him on film. Oddly it’s funny seeing Hedaya play Adrian Monk’s dad on TV.

Always good at playing villains, and Commando is no exception. "Colonel Matrix, if you kill President Velasquez, I will send her back to you. If you try anything else, I will mail her to you in pieces."

Sure. He's one of those character actors you recognize and enjoy, but don't always know the name.

Lest we forget his role as the father (to Loni Anderson's mother) of the two dancing idiots in A Night At The Roxbury (1998).

Dan Hedaya played President Richard Nixon in 'Dick' (1999). Four years earlier, he'd appeared in Oliver Stone's biopic, 'Nixon' (1995).
Around this time, he also appeared as Jackie Brown in 'Ransom' (1996). A year later, Quentin Tarantino directed the crime picture 'Jackie Brown' (1997).

Always liked what he said to her date
"Anything happens to my daughter, I got a .45 and a shovel, I doubt anybody would miss you. "
