Disappointed by the absence of NO MEAN CITY, although exactly what genre that classic belongs in, is up for debate.
It is purported to be a novel created from stories told by an unemployed Gorbals' resident to a journalist. It was one of the first books that I ever read and I asked my father who lived through those times if it was a true reflection of life in that godless part of the city and he said "You don't know the half of it" In the years that I lived in Glasgow, I never once visited that area. Too scared. Blackhill, which was up near Alexandra Park was another place "where the nutters lived"

The cutting room is excellent. MacBride has got a bit predictable although always fun.
