How? Does it have to go in a Ziploc bag or be put in anything other than the bag it comes in?
Does it get soggy as it thaws out? I wondered about frozen crystals or something?
How long can it safely be frozen for? Or will it stay fresh for a long enough period of time in the fridge?

Catman just puts the bread in the freezer right in the bag from the store. Works pretty well.
One hint: If you're going to freeze hot dog buns, separate the buns before freezing.

No hot dog buns, just regular bread, but it's already sliced. So that makes me wonder if the pieces will stick together? It's not a whole loaf. I'm also assuming when it's time, I take it from the freezer and put it in the fridge and not out on the counter to thaw. I'm trying to shop in bulk to reduce the frequency of my shopping. I'm not much of a bread person, so I figured I'd buy 2 loafs, and pop a loaf in the freezer.

Autumn But like catman says, it works great. I have only been shopping 4 times since 3/ 14! Maybe 6 ?? But not many. Lol So I asked here . The advice was to leave it in the wrapper and freeze it. But ziploc would work. It seems fresh when you take it out. I was sceptical but it works great. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you everyone! I'll pick up 2 loaves of bread when I go shopping next time so I can freeze a loaf.
I used to shop every week especially so I could get fresh fruit and veg. My diet has changed a lot since covid as well.

I freeze all kinds of 'bread.' Sliced, loaves, baguettes, buns, naan, tortilla, pita, English muffins, crumpets, focaccia, pizza... All good. Some breads especially things like hamburger/hotdog buns should get a paper towel in the bag to absorb moisture before thawing to ward off sogginess.

autumn I freeze it in the bag it comes in on the few occasions that I buy store bought bread. Usually when returning from vacation with some forced purchase! I have a toaster with a "frozen" setting so don't bother defrosting .. just separate the still frozen slices and toast away. Works best with non Wonder Bread type bread... what we call "cotton bread" from our whole grain perch of home made superiority

Don't open it and put it in the freezer. I've done that and it's just fine when you take it out.

Toasting eliminates all worries. That or you can take out just what you need for the day and leave the rest frozen. fwiw ,.. refrigerating bread is not recommended ... it dries out more in the fridge than when frozen or in a bag on counter.... dunno just why but all the bread making books I have have said the same thing. Maybe Urban legend ?

autumnToasting it very gently makes it defrosted ... might be worth a try of one piece and see if you like it Taking out a few slices at a time doesn't seem to matter. Depends on kind of bread and how you use it, I would suppose. Thawing in a closed bag MIGHT make it soggy .... dunno because am a toaster of store bought bread ... fresh or frozen.
