I love cotton sheets. (Here I go again on my fabric talk...so this is the origin). I'm super fussy about what touches my skin. I've always been afraid to ever send anyone, including any SO, to go out and pick up sheets or towels, because (God forbid) what if they come back with polyester, or a poly-blend, or even if it's cotton, what if it's only a 200 thread count?
I can't have that!
So I'm looking for new sheets with deep pockets, and I just saw some that were 1000 thread count? I've never seen anything like that.

Wait a minute. Now I saw one that read 1800 thread count? 1800 thread count? Really? Egyptian cotton? Cheaper than the 1000 thread count?
Doesn't this sound fishy? And is there such a thing as too high a thread count?

Yeah, I think it's mainly the 200 count stuff you want to avoid as it feels more like sandpaper. but I would imagine anything 400+ (and 100% Cotton) is 'good enough' in my estimations.

I've been reading reviews and I actually did end up with 270 thread count, and this is why.
When I looked at the fine print, even when they were listed as "cotton" what I eventually found out as they were sateen finish and often microfiber.
Same thing with bamboo, and I read so many promising things about that. Microfiber. I read the reviews and that's where I found out that many of these are advertised as cotton, but they contain cotton but use short staple cotton, or aren't single thread or aren't thick.
Even with high thread I expect thick sheets but reviews often cite them as being paper thin. I'm not going into stores (not that any are open) to buy sheets so it's online and into the machine for me.
This sheet buying is getting as complicated as my loaf of bread.

Autumn, I like sheets from BROOKLINEN (Brooklinen.com). I believe that they're in upstate New York, and I'm on the west coast, so I have to order online. A couple of friends recommended them. Below is a claim about thread count from their website. They claim that anything over 500 count, is often misleading. The count should be on the single ply, but frequently these claims count EVERY ply of a "Multi-Ply" makeup of the thread. I don't have any expertise in thread count quality, but this statement seems to corroborate what you say that you found in your research. They say that their sheets are 300 count. I love them. 4. Thread Count Thread count is the number of threads woven together in a square inch of fabric. As the thread count rises, the fabric becomes softer, denser and warmer.
A higher thread count does not necessarily mean a higher quality sheet.
Thread counts advertised in excess of 500 are often misrepresented by manufacturers in order to trick customers. They count not just each thread, but each ply spun together within each thread. As multi-ply construction is often used to strengthen lower-grade cotton, a super high thread count can actually indicate the presence of a lower-quality sheet.

I already placed the order last night from BLOOM, but I will look into the company you recommend. Bloom was the only company that mentioned the exact same thing about single thread and called out the other companies misleading customers by boasting things like super high thread count. Once I learned that, it opened my eyes up to reading the fine print and I realized every other company selling sheets was using that formula. The ones I got were cotton percale and no other company could make such claims which was interesting, even though the thread count was 270. Let's see what I end up with.

I looked at BLOOM. Let us know if you are happy with their product. I'm not in need of sheets, right now. But, if you're happy with what they have to offer, I'll consider trying them.

I know it's a little late to ask, but what did you think of BLOOM? And sure, I'll post an update and let everyone know how their sheets are. I can never have too many sheets, especially in the summer, it's nice to change them often, so I'd like to check the other place out.

I took only a cursory look ... as I said, I'm not in the market for more sheets, now. Where I live, summer heat isn't problem that requires more frequent changes of sheets. "Bloom," seems to have more inventory that's focused on pajamas, and general bed "clothing," than Brooklinen does. I may go back and look at that, at some point.

My sheets arrived, and I threw them in the washer and now they're in the dryer. They feel very different than my regular sheets. Can't describe why they feel different, but they do. Perhaps after they come out of the dryer, they'll soften up. After all, they are brand new, and haven't had time to soften up yet.
I remember when I was reading the reviews, people were writing about how because they're all cotton, they needed to be ironed. It never occurred to me to iron my sheets. I mean,...I'm just covering them up with my comforter and sleeping on them...why would I care if they've got some wrinkles in them? We shift a lot in our sleep anyway, and when we stretch the bottom sheet, it pulls it tight. Why iron?

Last night was my first night with the new percale sheets, all cotton, single thread, 270 thread count.
Report? I LOVE THEM! Slept like a baby. They really are terrific. They don't slip and slide off the bed. Wonderful

I like a nice crisp sheet. My daughter got me a set of 500 thread count cotton sheets for my birthday in a soft blue to go with our bedroom decor. I cannot wait to put them on. They are going in wash today.

They are going in wash today. I got a set of white, and a set of pale blue. I love them! They were the only percale sheets I could fine on Amazon. After researching, I learned about single thread, and how misleading some of the marketing tools can be when they use super high thread counts to sell. It was such a wonderful night's sleep, and the sheets felt wonderful against my skin. I was sleeping on sateen sheets before which I thought I liked because they were soft, but now I realize they sucked. They were slippery, shiny, and kept sliding off the bed and coming untucked Oh and another thing, with the sateen sheets, I was sweating a lot at night. With the percale, I felt very nice and cool. I'll never switch again. I may buy some more just to make sure. I'm surprised they were hard to find (at least via Amazon).

I know someone who used to be a purchase director for a European dept. store chain and would travel to the Gulf and Asia for business, his opinion on 1000 thread count bed sheets at exculsive hotels are overhyped garbage and not worth it at all.
