Top twenty in order:
MANHATTAN ALL THAT JAZZ
HEAD OVER HEELS/CHILLY SCENES OF WINTER OLD BOYFRIENDS BLUE REMEMBERED HILLS (TV) WISE BLOOD LAST EMBRACE ALIEN STARTING OVER APOCALYPSE NOW THE CHINA SYNDROME SALEM'S LOT(TV) YANKS TIME AFTER TIME WINTER KILLS LIFE OF BRIAN SAINT JACK THE ROSE FROM HERE TO ETERNITY (TV) THE TEMPEST
ALL THAT JAZZ is sorely neglected now imho - self indulgent towards the end, for sure ....but some great musical numbers and a performance from Scheider I'd rate as one of the finest of that - or any other - year.

Stalker The Tin Drum Breaking Away Manhattan Alien Saint Jack - great performances by Ben Gazzara and Denholm Elliott. Banned here in Singapore for many years this is a revealing look at SG’s underworld and a riveting character study. All That Jazz Apocalypse Now Black Jack - Ken Loach’s strange and sadly forgotten childrens’ period adventure story. The Marriage of Maria Braun
then: Winter Kills, Hair, Kramer vs. Kramer, Escape from Alcatraz, A Little Romance, Quadrophenia,The Black Stallion, Murder by Decree, Time After Time, Scum
