Breaking News.
The last 24 hours have been a nightmare for the Mets.
Collins should be fired for starting Thor yesterday.

This is just too typical of the fucking Mets. They do this EVERY time. Syndergaard clearly had some type of issue the other day so what do they do? They let him decide what he wants to do. He's a kid. He's a young star athlete who thinks he's invincible. Why in hell would you leave that decision entirely up to him without so much as a physical or an MRI? Sit him down and make him get checked out. You have unlimited funds and this kid is a key piece of the team, force him to get checked out if you must.
But no. Not only do they just say "ok, go back out there" without checking him out, but they leave everything up to him, AND they somehow let it get out that he threw a fit in the clubhouse when they asked him to get an MRI. That wasn't in front of the press, that somehow got out. Granted Noah shouldn't do that, but that's a separate issue. You don't hear this kind of childish shit with other teams. What a fucking bullshit circus, so now us Mets fans are left to wonder if this should have been a simple 10-day shutdown to let his lat clear up, instead of what now looks like a 2-3 months absence.
Un-fucking-believable. Every team has injuries, but only the Mets manage to mismanage them at every single pass.

But I've seen some online debate on whether or not the Mets could contractually force him to get the MRI.

Un-fucking-believable. Every team has injuries, but only the Mets manage to mismanage them at every single pass. Generally agree, Mets are an awful franchise top to bottom in the front office. But I've seen some online debate on whether or not the Mets could contractually force him to get the MRI. Contractually, no they cannot force him to, although such a stipulation could be added once he finishes out his rookie contract and signs a fully-negotiated free agent contract (as would be typical for an injury-prone player). But putting that aside, he is their investment and they are effectively his bosses; it behooves them to create a situation where (1) he trusts their medical judgment to make sure he is fit to take the mound and (2) for him to acquiesce to their wishes. For both of those to be true, they need to be basically be not the Mets. They have a history of not having their players take extra precautions and almost universally resulting in catastrophically worse injuries. Day-to-day becomes 6 weeks. A 10-day shutdown becomes a 3 month absence. A concussion to Ryan Church turns into a life-threatening situation because they flew him across the country. Look around the league. Virtually every single time a shoulder, an arm, a bicep, a hamstring starts to twitch, that player gets an MRI. Every time. But not if you're on the Mets. If you're Jose Reyes and your calf hurts, just go out there and run it out, resulting in a 4 month absence. If you're Yoenis Cespedes and you tweak your hamstring, just sit for 2 days instead of a full 10 days, resulting in what will probably be 6 weeks. Now this. This is typical Mets. Can they legally force him to? Probably not. But if they weren't such a shit show would he trust them enough to let them impose their will (which was highly reasonable given the circumstances) on him when it comes to his body which is effectively their property? Fuck yes. An afternoon in the doctor's office could have saved him and the team 3 months of Rafael Montero and probably a lost season.

No offense, but I stopped reading at "trusts their medical judgment." My sides were hurting too much.

They must use the same medical staff as the Sixers.
