That's not discrimination. Sounds like he is showing favoritism. Nobody lets me drink on the job

I wonder what kind of liquor Paul liked? I bet he was a scotch drinker. Everybody in the 60s and 70s seemed to drink scotch. Or at least in the movies and tv. I don't care for scotch myself. Actually I think the stuff is pretty vile.

To be honest, I don't understand many of your posts.
As to the question on this thread: I would suggest that your boyfriend have the owner's permission in writing, to guard against dismissal for drinking on-the-job.
You acknowledge the "stereotype" of Russian alcoholism ... I'm of Irish descent, we get the same thing. However, is your boyfriend, truly in need of alcohol for the period of time that he's at work? If so, stereotype, or not, it may apply to him.

The way you state your case it seems that your boyfriend's boss is giving your boyfriend special treatment based on the sole fact that your boyfriend is Russian. I don't know. Russians have the reputation of being super heavy drinkers, with vodka being the drink of choice. Also (and I would venture to say this is true and accurate) I think that life in Russia is harsh and bleak and unforgiving. And staying drunk IS an option. How long has your boyfriend not lived in Russia? I am of the belief that circumstances should be acknowledged and considered. Very little in this fine world of ours is black and white. Maybe the boss man feels some compassion for your boyfriend. Have you told us everything? Details can be relevant.

Maybe the boss man feels some compassion for your boyfriend. Have you told us everything? Details can be relevant. No one really has permission to drink on the job. My boyfriend is not an alcoholic and I had an ex who was so I know the signs. He has spoken of being drunk and hungover in recent weeks but has never been intoxicated around me in the 3 months I've been talking with him. The only thing he thinks he's addicted to is Gatorade. The boss is just making a bad joke based on generalizations and stereotypes which, based on some "human rights" complaints we see in courts in Canada, can be construed as racist. My boyfriend has been in Canada for 3 years and is the only ethnic Russian working at the store, although there is a Central Asian guy there who speaks Russian too. Various employees make ethnicity-related comments to him from time to time. Like being able to lift pallets with his bare hands: "That's because he's Russian." And mentioning to him that we need to stock Russian dressing. Hell, today an Indian and Filipino employee said "cyka" and a Serbian one said a phrase that means "fuck your mom" in Russian. It's kind of an inside joke to swear in Russian to him.

It sounds like your bf is being given extra special treatment. I'd hardly call that "discrimination". But why would your boss allow anyone to drink on the job? That's a liability right there.

It sounds like a harmless joke. If you or he is over sensitive about it you come off as whiners.
You make it sound like he's he telling a black employee he can eat fried chicken and smoke crack on the job. That would be offensive. Okay maybe you have a point lol, but really I think it's harmless.
People in Canada constantly look for ways to be offended after seeing jackpots like these: www.hrreporter.com/opinion/canadian-hr-law/case-update-imperial-oil/322450My boy makes race-related jokes too. A black stock boy was being paged over the PA and I started leaving at the same time and my bf said "No, not you. You're not the right colour." There are zero black people where he's from.
