You can tell if someone focuses on what I look like vs. how I speak based on whether they assume I don't speak English or that I was born in Canada.
Both are WRONG! But I prefer the latter because at least they're listening to me.

What I say/my speech. It's much more relevant when it comes to who I really am.

If they don't speak well, or say ignorant things, it's a real turnoff.

You have far more control in what you say than how you look, so speech.

To the OP:
Back when I was taking grade 12 English, we had a subject. Can't remember how it was brought up, but it involved a classmate and her family going to Scotland. They called to see if any room were available. The concierge asked them if they are Canadian. Of course, they said they were. The concierge then said 'no problem - have LOTS of rooms available'. Now, wondering what the answer would have been if they said they were American.
Along that same line:
When my family (mother, brother and I - father arrived a bit later) went to England for the summer, we were in Blackpool. My brother and I were talking to each other. One of the kids asked us if we were American. I explained that we are Canadian. He didn't believe me!

Based on how you phrased your question, my hope is that you're assessed on your appearance.

For me, the latter. Unfortunately that isn’t necessarily reciprocated towards the ladies. ![](http://www.looduskalender.ee/forum/images/smilies/unsure.gif)
