The '80s mostly sucked, but 87 and 88 are overflowing with good choices. I highly disagree. It's at least partly because I was a kid during the 80s so would watch any old rubbish that I wouldn't go near now. But I do have more trouble, especially for the first half of the decade, making a fully satisfying list of favourite films than for any other decade from the 30s onwards. There are plenty of 80s films I like, but not all that many I love.

I agree the 1980s is weak for great films compared to many other decades, but I think it is unique in that even many of the bad movies are fun. Nostalgia is a big part of the reason I love movies from the 1980s. The whole 1980s feel is fun to me. I even love most of the music from the 1980s. It is also my favorite decade for horror movies. 1988 is a great year for Lead Actress performances compared to most years though.

I completely agree on 80s music and on the great selection of actresses to choose from in 1988!

Mary McDonnell, Matewan almost - Charles Grodin in Ishtar I always thought that Albert Brooks being placed in supporting was a little unfair - the film was every bit as much about him as it was about Hunter and Hurt. I think they went for the ‘lesser’ male star (Hurt was on a roll) and less conventionally ‘attractive’ (although I find him more appealing than Hurt in the film). Anyway, I think it’s a wonderful performance.

Honestly, I think Cher was underrated as an actress when she was in movies. Even though she did win an Academy Award.
