Now those are some words that wouldn't exist in that order if Keanu wasn't the internet's favorite uncle all of a sudden.
I'd rather a reboot closer to Alan Moore's creation.

This comes off as painfully desperate. Who was even asking for this?

I thought the first was decent but nothing special. I don't see the demand for a sequel though, besides the fact that Keanu Reeves is attached.

This comes off as painfully desperate. Who was even asking for this? so now making a sequel comic book movie is desperate ? No more desperate than making more Top Guns, Ghostbusters , Hunger Games, Star Wars. You may be right if we were talking about another Terminator.

Making a sequel to a movie that people don’t particularly care for, and that didn’t even do that great at the box office is a weird choice. It seems like this is only being done because they’re banking on Keanu Reeves’ popularity.

Update from Lawrence:
"...We don't have a script, but Keanu, me, and Akiva [Goldsman] who all worked on the first one together have all been trying over the years to get another one going. It's been tricky because of the DC/Vertigo world and who owns the character and who has control over the characters, trying to get the right people to go forward. We've got that now and now we need the story. We'd all love to do it."

I reckon if you're gonna do the sequel, go all the way. "One of the biggest things for me about the first one was we followed, per Warner Bros., the rules to make a PG-13 movie in terms of violence, blood, language, sexuality. But the ratings board gave us a hard R based on their the gray zone of intensity. And my big, big regret was that we have an R-rated movie that’s really a PG-13 movie. And if I was going to have to go have an R, I would have really made an R-rated movie. I would have made it much scarier and much more violent and I would have really made an R-rated movie. "The idea is this time, at least for me, is to really go at it and make a real R-rated Constantine which is, I think, what people always wanted originally, not the PG-13 version that just happens to get an R."

The actor pestered the studio, asking them almost annually if they could make Constantine 2 happen. Check out Reeves' comments on the sequel below: I don't know if it was unfinished business but it was definitely a role that I loved, and I thought that Francis Lawrence, the director, did such amazing work. I loved playing that character, and I really enjoyed the film. I was like, [adopts Oliver Twist voice] 'Can I please have some more?' ... I kept asking almost every year. I'd be like, 'Can I please?' [and] they'd be like, 'No, no!' So it's exciting. It's almost like an open playground that we can hopefully cook something up and play in, and I guess get out of the playground and prepare a meal, but I'm looking forward to it, and hopefully it can happen. You don't know how these things go. But I'm definitely going to try my darndest to try and realize that dream.

Never mind. Still happening.
"Entertainment Weekly now confirms that the sequel is still a part of Gunn and Safran's vision, with a spokesperson from Warner Bros. confirming to EW that everything is still on track as planned concerning the highly anticipated sequel."

Of writing the script for the new film, Goldsman revealed:
“The character is very much Keanu and the way he and Francis saw the world of good and evil, and the wonderful and authentic noir where there is a world behind the world of good and evil coexist with our world right up close. Beyond that, we are still discovering it as I am writing the script.”
