Interesting Australian film that was denied a home video/dvd release until 2009. There was no decent prints available until one was discovered in 2009. It caught my attention as a lost and found cult classic. trailer
wikiIt's a weekend from hell movie where a teacher off home for Christmas in the searing heat of the outback, stops by a town called "The Yabba", a drinking hole where men just get drunk all day long. He ends up losing all his money gambling leaving him broke, stranded and in bad company. It's a descent into darkness for the main guy. Well worth checking out and if anyone has see it what did you think?

I liked it okay. Pretty strange movie, but interesting. I liked Donald Pleasence in it.

Excellent film, and probably the drunkest movie I’ve ever seen. The kangaroo hunt is one of the most disturbing sequences ever, and a Pleasence gives a great performance.

One of the best movies about alcoholism.

I first saw this many years ago on TV in an edited version titled Outback. Then I bought the Wake In Fright DVD in 2009.
A prime example of the Australian New Wave film movement that was growing in the 1970s, and a good one at that. A bit draggy in parts, but overall an interesting character study. I also enjoyed the music score.

It was the same guy who directed Weekend at Bernies (1989). Another weekend from hell movie.
