Native American to collect his Oscar while he was presenting the best picture award. Whoa. That's something that wouldn't fly today

I thought I remember reading John Wayne was furious and had to be held back from storming on stage.

It was simplistic/intellectual back then with their presentation script and the acceptance speech. Also, The Emigrants, Sounder?--they sure fell into the abyss. Never heard of them. "The ceremonies were presided over by Carol Burnett, Michael Caine, Charlton Heston, and Rock Hudson." Michael Jackson's Ben was nominated for a song award. I am surprised a low budget horror film like that would be eligible. Another interesting thing is the small number of awards. Best Sound no Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Recording, Best Sound Mixing.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/45th_Academy_Awards#Winners_and_nominees

I thought I remember reading John Wayne was furious and had to be held back from storming on stage. Yo! It is the story of a woman finding her voice, while caught between two of Hollywood’s most powerful men. Marlon Brando wanted to give her a global platform to speak out. But Littlefeather said John Wayne, famous for killing Native Americans on film, was so angry at her remarks that he wanted to drag her away. “He had to be restrained by six security men,” she once told the Globe and Mail. www.thewrap.com/sacheen-littlefeather-marlon-brando-oscar-john-wayne/

Not long after this, Brando bought and donated a tract of land to a Native American group. The next night Johnny Carson said it was nice idea but unfortunately John Wayne donated an adjacent tract to the cavalry.

This is a good example of how culturally elitist the awards are. The British Film Awards for the same year has practically nothing British-made up for nomination: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/26th_British_Academy_Film_AwardsWhat is the point of a British film awards that focuses only on Hollywood films?

Native American to collect his Oscar while he was presenting the best picture award. Whoa. That's something that wouldn't fly today I like Marlon Brando, but sometimes he could be pretentious. Not accepting an award seems very ungrateful to me.
