Nic, are "Blue Crabs" and "Soft Shell Crabs," the same thing? I had Soft Shell Crab at a restaurant in D.C., many years ago. They're delicious. They're flown to the west coast, during the summer months, but I've never tried to cook them. I should try.
Crab is wonderful! We have Dungeness, here. They're harvested in the late fall/winter months. There have been some "glitches," in the season, over the last few years, as water temps have been too warm to guard against a harmful bacteria.

I had Soft Shell Crab at a restaurant in D.C., many years ago Yes they are.Crabs 'grow' by shedding their shell. When this happens the new shell is soft, but it only stays soft for a short time, hence hard to find and expensive. On the rare occasions I find them I saute them in butter. They're my favorite seafood. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soft-shell_crab

I have never eatin the whole crab before. My crab eating is Alaskan king crab legs. I enjoy crab legs more than lobster. Lobster is too rich for me.
