We have a sour cherry tree in our yard, today my DH ot out the ladder and picked enough for 4 pies. Gonna pick more in the next couple if days, and we will have about the same amount as today. It is a fairly young tree so it is producing well. A friend told me a very clever way to pit them, just use a straw through the top of the cherry. However I find it faster to just use my thumbnail, and pop the seeds out that way, When we are enjoying the pies throughout the year the effort will be worth it. But wow, I had cherry juice on the wall, all over my table here in the living room , all over my clothes, my face and running down my arm! It all washes off.

suzi An opened paper clip works for those who are thumbnail deficient ! Gadget like this is worth getting _ it pushes the pit into the jar I have this one too and like it !
