I'm four episodes in. And for the first three episodes I gradually became enamored with it. At some points I was even thinking that it was the best Star Wars had been in decades. Then I watched episode four and came to a startling realization...
What I actually loved about it was really once again nothing more than the sight of seeing familiar Star Wars imagery on screen. When Mando walked into the hideout and there were dozens of Mandos in Mando armor I was FANBOYYING out. When a tiny Yoda appeared I was FANBOYYING out. When Salacious Crumb's species appeared I was FANBOYYING out. When a hologram of a Mon Cal appeared I was... Well, you get the idea. But....
Then episode four happens. It has zero Star Wars atmosphere or imagery aside from Mando, the child and a Chicken Walker. The planet looked like something out of a bad Star Trek episode. And it hit me...
Take away all the iconography, give Mando different armor, make the baby equally cute but of a different species, remove the Jawas, the Stormtroopers ECT. Keep the same exact scripts and directors, same characters, same stories. Would this show be popular? Would it be nominated for an Emmy? Would anyone even be talking about it?
It really just feels like The Force Awakens all over again to me. Perhaps my opinion will change again as I finish it. If I had posted this review after the second episode it would have been an extremely positive one.

And one more thing I need to rant about: Can Disney Star Wars ever do anything but copy Tatoonie?! Look, it's another desolate landscape with one tiny town the size of a basketball court. And it has a seedy bar full of aliens!
Where's the Lucas/McQuarrie imagination? Where's the Cloud Cities, the Naboos and the Couresants?! Come on, man!

I made a post about it on Film General and Anthony "Wolf" Rocks got angry because I said I thought Bryce Dallas Howard didn't direct it that well. Don't know if that's your problem but I thought I might throw that in the ring.

Honestly, I probably wouldn't have even posted this rant if not for that awful episode. Faverau needs a co-writer though. The character motivations are all over the place.

I think you're overthinking things. That episode is especially good in my opinion. It's the one with Baby Yoda sipping from the cup, right? That's classic, man! I really had zero problems with it.

Another thought: What do the Mandos even believe in?
When he betrayed the bounty guild they came to his aid. Why? Didn't he kind of betray them too? Is he the only one of them that works as a bounty hunter? If so, why? I though he was a cold blooded assassin and now in episode four he's a polite, altruistic hero that saves a farm. None of the motivations are fleshed out at all.

I agree, but there has to be a standard of creativity. It also has to fit asthetically into the universe. That farm felt like it was from an episode of Xena or something. What if that boring planet had been used in a Star Wars movie? It wouldn't fit.

Episode Five was awful too. Disney Star Wars is just one big tease for me. I desperately want to love this series. I want a great show about the Mandaolorians. Maybe the final episodes will pick up when they get back to the core story.

Episode six didn't do much for me either. Why do they have so many stand alones?! It should be strictly serialized.
Damn, I really wanted to like this show, I think I'm completely done with Dizney Star Wars now,

I think what you're trying to say is that this show desperately needs more Darth Maul!

I liked it but it seemed like after the first two or three episodes, the rest up until the last two were just filler. They didn't really add to the overall main story.
I'm hoping this Season 2 isn't going to be like that.

I'm hoping this Season 2 isn't going to be like that. Exactly. The last two- which I just watched this morning- were a lot better than those middle three. If the show was strictly serialized with no adventure of the week episodes in between it might end up being alright. It still feels a little low budget and blandly written though. The odds of me watching season two are about 50/50. I admit I am curious to see if they actually show Yoda's homeworld, or maybe even feature Luke's Jedi Order.
