For whatever reason I hadn’t seen it in full until recently...was pretty enjoyable. A little long in some part tho I will say. But the action sequences were very cool. Pretty much an all star cast. Also...for whatever reason...I never realized Operation Market Garden was such of clusterfuck. That it technically was a failed mission and what the entire plan of attack really was. I guess I just never paid as close attention in other things like Band of Brothers. I knew it was a big drop behind enemy lines but the whole attempt to control and hold points for days behind enemy lines...what optimism. Honesty surprised it worked as well as it even did.
Overall a good flick that I’d like to rewatch at some point since it’s like 3 hrs long I’m sure there’s things I overlooked.

I’ve been trying to watch it for so long but it’s hard to fit the runtime into my schedule right now. Looks like a Bridge on the River Kwai type of war epic, so I’m of course interested.

I never realized Operation Market Garden was such of clusterfuck. It's a film I've liked since childhood...amazing cast. British productions seem to do military cluster fucks quite well - Charge Of The Light Brigade, Zulu Dawn, Dunkirk etc I read William Goldman's book and he talks about writing ABTF. The scene where Redford crosses the river in light boats whilst under fire was changed from the reality. In fact the boats went back and forth on the river and crossed at least twice. One reason it was only one crossing in the film was that it was thought that the audience wouldn't believe that the crossing was made more than once.

I watched it once all the way through and seen pieces on television. It's okay but I like it better compared to other seventies war epics like MacArthur or Tora! Tora! Tora!.

Beautifully filmed and sprawling in scope but flawed by the pep rally parts in the soundtrack and a few truly hammy performances, especially E Gould's.
I asked a veteran of Market Garden (101st Airborne) what he thought of the operation. His terse reply was, "Well, we took our bridge."

One of the greatest war movies of all time. I have it on DVD before that I had it on VHS. I've watched it all the way through at least a dozen times.

Coincidentally I watched it for the first time just last weekend. I found it quite enjoyable as well. I loved Sean Connery and Anthony Hopkins in it.

Apparently, this film demonstrates how Cliff Clavin won the war before spending all that time on a barstool: ![https://i.pinimg.com/originals/72/3a/9f/723a9fd6fd8c6e83e5fdbaf117b6055c.jpg](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/72/3a/9f/723a9fd6fd8c6e83e5fdbaf117b6055c.jpg)

A bit on the long side but quite enjoyable. Another war movie with a star-studded cast.
Somehow it's The Hill, that I happened to watch for the first time recently.

If it had worked, it would have been awesome; all six bridges captured by paratroopers and XXX Corps rolling into Germany almost a year before it happened.
My pop took me to see this film in the 70's. I thought it was great then and I still do. The 82nd Airborne river crossing scene is my favorite.

That scene reminded me a lot of the escape in the Great Escape.
