Since reeves is out. I heard they considered Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez, if they happen to get one of those two I would certainly be happy. Thoughts??

Outside of David Fincher somehow doing this film there isn't anybody that they could get for me to be at all excited about this film. There just really seems to be something toxic about it with all the bad press it's getting with directors dropping out and the Affleck rumors of him wanting to bet out all together. I think the studio just can't get over themselves and let these movies be great.
Wonder Woman is my last straw. Once again the trailers have been good but if it's bad then anything in the future I'm simply Red Boxing. Maybe not AquaMan because I'm just insanely curious to know how they pull that movie off and I'm also a James Wan fan.

Good points Smurfbate. I so wish it would be David Fincher or Denis Villanueve but I doubt either of those two would work on this film.

The real question is, who should WB approach after the NEXT director inevitably pulls out.

I seriously think Kevin Smith could pull it off.

I seriously think Kevin Smith could pull it off. While I LOVE Kevin Smith I honestly think that's like a 0.1% chance it happens. I listen to his podcasts weekly and while he's appreciative of people suggesting him for it he constantly brings up that they'd never hire him. He didn't have the best experience with a higher budget movie in Cop Out as well as he's also the guy who made Tusk and Yoga Hosers so he's not exactly the most critically acclaimed director anymore. There is also the thing of him and Ben Affleck having a falling out after he got with Jennifer Garner so it's told and that they haven't talked to one another in a long time. While I think Kevin Smith could do a decent/good Batman if he were in control of it I think it would be a lot more in line with the Adam West version that he adored as a child and I'm not sure that's the Batman anyone really wants to see anymore.

I assumed he had to have improved as a director by now. I recall that he talked about his experiences with Cop Out in that stand-up special thing he did; most of the problems came from Bruce Willis being a douche. With The Batman, he wouldn't have to deal with that. I hadn't heard that he and Ben Affleck weren't friends anymore. It's time they buried whatever ill feelings that may have arisen and come back together for the sake of something bigger than themselves. Unlike almost any director the studio will ask, Kevin is a true fan who knows the characters and world inside out. He can get his mind together and put together the best Batman movie of all time if he wanted to. But they'll probably just make Zack Snyder do it. I'm one of the few who likes his style, so I won't mind.

Have you not watched his recent string of movies? He honestly just does his own passion projects now and he's currently doing a Clerks 3 and another Jay and Silent Bob movie. While I personally liked Red State he hasn't had anything critically acclaimed in a long while. While he does know the characters and apparently is well liked by the DC community (outside of his original thoughts on how BvS was shit) given his directing of Flash and Supergirl shows I'm not sure he'd even be interested in doing it. He'd want to do it his way and he likely knows the studio would mess with it. His friendship with Affleck falling out also means that it's not like Affleck is going to Champion for Smith to get the job.
From Kevin's perspective he said that Garner did not like him at all and found him to be far too immature and made Ben stop talking/hanging out with him.

Matt Reeves wasn't attached and still might return if the issues is only his management company holding out for more money. I'd go with Alex Garland (Ex-Machina, and writer of Dredd), Gareth Evans (Raid 1&2). Fincher is a long shot, like a Hail Mary pass.....over Jupiter, but his schedule looks pretty clear. But Ridley Scott isn't the right fit, however Mel Gibson could be. Fede would be cool, I liked his Evil Dead remake and Don't Breathe was great; I'm not sure if he's there yet, but why not. Refn would have a nice take on it, not sure anyone would talk, but visually it would be stunning. And of course Denis, fantastic director, and is on Blade Runner 2 (yeah i know it has a proper title, that's what it is, Blade Runner 2 ), but he might be a tad busy.
