this is an entertaining movie and no where close to bad as the reviews say it is. Basically a slasher flick with higher end actors and production values. Definitely way better than that really dumb Invisible Man movie that came out earlier this year. Fight me!

Not terrible, but nothing great either.
I know Verhoeven considers it his worst film.

Maltin Movie Guide Review:
Hollow Man (2000) - 2 out of 4 stars
"New twist on The Invisible Man has cocky research lab genius Bacon deciding to try his revolutionary formula on himself, with incendiary results. Starts out fun, then turns nasty (in true Verhoeven style) and stupid. A shame, considering how great the special effects are. Fine score by Jerry Goldsmith. Alternate version runs 122 minutes. Followed in 2006 by a direct-to-video sequel."

This year’s Invisible Man was far, far better than this (entertaining) trash.

Not as good or scary as it should be. Being a Verhoeven movie, it’s about as voyeuristic as expected. The cgi remains impressive. Elisabeth Shue’s character was one of the more interesting and resourceful final girls. It’s too bad you don’t hear her mentioned much.

I hates that movie. The best part about seeing it in the theater was the laugh everybody have when, while walking out of the theater, some dude yelled, "That movie sucked!"

Only reason I saw this film back in the day was because of Shue. Always was a fan of hers from back in the Karate Kid, Back to the Future, Adventures in Babysitting days. Otherwise it was pretty bad.

Definitely way better than that really dumb Invisible Man movie that came out earlier this year. Fight me! Sure. That one had a theme. The victims were sympathetic. The bad guy was unsettling. There were rules with his powers. It took the invisible man concept in a slightly new direction. What is the theme of this one? That if a pervy douche got invisibility powers, he'd be an invisible pervy douche? The heroes are barely more likable. And apparently turning invisible makes you Jason goddamn Voorhees. It's basically a big budget skinenax take on the genre.

Mid-level Paul Verhoeven. It is unapologetically trashy.
Entertaining dumbed down take on The Invisible Man story that still effectively touches on some of the same themes. Kevin Bacon and the cool effects are what make the movie fun.
6/10

I watched it on the internet a week after it came out (along with What Lies Beneath). My brother stumbled upon a site that was running a pirate bootleg--the image was about the size of a postage stamp but it was the complete film with a lot of image and sound stuttering.
Kind of ruined the viewing experience but it was neat to see such a thing at the time.

I don't care what anyone says. I prefer this film over The Invisible Man film that came out earlier this year.

THE INVISIBLE MAN 1933 6/10 THE INVISIBLE MAN RETURNS isn't that memorable, but compared to THE INVISIBLE MAN 1933, it has better performances and the horror and comedy are more balanced. 6/10 Unlike its predecessors, THE INVISIBLE WOMAN is pure comedy. That was a mistake. Not because the concept doesn't lend itself to jokes (in fact, there are some truly funny moments here), but it feels too detached from the franchise. In fact, it came out the same year as the previous installment, making the changes more jarring. 3/10 Is it hard for you to differentiate similar genres? Then this franchise might help you. Compare INVISIBLE AGENT to the first 2 installments. This is a thriller without horror elements. While there are enjoyable scenes, the invisibility concept feels like a last minute addition, resulting in another detached sequel. 5/10 THE INVISIBLE MAN'S REVENGE 1/10 HOLLOW MAN PART I 6/10 HOLLOW MAN PART II 3/10 THE INVISIBLE MAN 2020 9/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
