I think the rumours started around the time he point blank refused to see anything wrong with what Suarez said to Evra. Then it emerged that throughout his management career, he'd only ever signed 2 black players, and one of them was John Barnes, the hottest property in English football at the time. I think maybe even Hitler would have signed up Jesse Owens for the Berlin Olympics if he could have. Certainly not conclusive, but not too much danger of him filling up too many diversity quotas!
