The first 4 movies are all great. I love the different feel of each. First one is a low key character study in a rural small American town. The second is wall to wall action filled with plenty of practical stunts in the jungles of Vietnam. The third develops the brilliant relationship of Rambo and Colonel Trautman that was briefly touched on in the first 2 movies, amidst the rocky terrains of Russia. And Rambo 4 is an ultra violent bloodfest take on Rambos twilight years showcasing the brutality of the Burmese army. The recent new one that came out is utter garbage and no real Rambo fan should consider it canon. I've yet to see the other Rambo films after the second film but you're absolutely right. Going by the first two films I've seen, I, too, love the different feel of each film. And even though I haven't seen the third film, I love the relationship between John Rambo and Colonel Trautman judging by their interactions in the first two films. Trautman basically keeps him grounded and somewhat at ease. Trautman's like a stable support system for him. And if it hadn't been for him, Rambo would've truly gone off the deep end and probably would've killed anyone he saw. Like I said in my first post in this thread, I'm kind of angry at myself for not seeing these films sooner.

It's a product of its time, at the end of the film it used to say 'dedicated to the gallant people of Afghanistan'. Not anymore. It's got some good 80s action. Stallone breaking necks and gunning down Russians by the dozen.

Like I said in my first post in this thread, I'm kind of angry at myself for not seeing these films sooner. I only watched them all for the first time within the last year. Its rare that every movie in a franchise is atleast good, and I thought that about the 4 rambo movies (until rambo 5 came out - dont watch it) And I dont understand some of the critics in this thread to anything other than Rambo 1. Not every movie Needs a to be a character study or a slow burner. Rambo 2, 3 and 4 have superb practically assembled stunts and believable action scenes in real world exotic environments. Id rather watch these again than most modern day computer generated fake action movies.

I like Rambo 3 and Rambo 4 was a lot better than I expected it to be. The first is kind of lopsided-the National Guard stuff seems more like from a comedy movie.
Lots of quotable stuff in them
"He and I were friends when your momma was still wiping your nose!"
"Men goddammit! Men who fought for their country!"
"Dragonfly... wolf den--colorful names!"
"These are the people you protect--with your pain. You may scream, there is no shame."
"Yushin has a memento for you of this occasion."
"Put it in his eye!"
"Murdock...I'm coming to get you!"

And I hope to enjoy the rest of the Rambo films as well. I also would rather watch these films than most of the modern day CGI action films, especially since most of them are watered down compared to the Rambo films and other action films from the 1980s and 1990s. There's something about the Rambo films that are appealing, unapologetic, and timeless despite the decade most of the films came out in.

Hard R action movies usually had toy lines geared for kids back then. I remember Robocop toys as well.
But the first two First Bloods are both fantastic in different ways. The first one has a lot more substance to it, the second I always enjoyed as a fun one man vs an entire army flick and I enjoyed the romantic subplot as well.

RoboCop is another one I'm still perplexed by how they made toys and cartoons from that. And I also happen to love that film. PRECISELY. The first two are each individually outstanding in different ways. The first film was like an amalgamation of a drama, thriller, action, and survival film. It made me think about society and how those who've suffered trauma, especially veterans, have to cope with what they've been through. The second film was an amalgamation of an action and survival film. I also enjoyed the romantic subplot. In fact, it served a great purpose because it ultimately saved Rambo from those DIABOLICAL Vietnamese and Russian soldiers. It also gave him more character depth.

There was a Rambo video game that came out around 2013 that was based on the first three films.

First Blood is one of the greatest movies of the 80s. It's an intense action movie, but a genuinely moving one with a strong and important message at its core. I could never get into the sequels though.

I could never get into the sequels though. I think it's one of the greatest movies ever and I've only seen it once! The film (and to a certain extent, even Rambo: First Blood Part II) hasn't left my mind since I'd seen it. The message really stuck with me.

The first one was excellent. Part DEUX is silly but entertaining 90s cheese.
