The way I look at it, this is cyber space and the correct response to an insult is to suggest that the other chap eat shit and hope that their hemorrhoids burst.
But complaining to the Admin? Seems a bit ball less.
If EVERYONE just COMPLETELY ignored the few TRULY insufferable jerks whose ONLY goal is to get your, my, and anybody else's attention that they can, MOST of them would go away, and go away QUICKLY. But it (almost) NEVER seems to fail.....SOMEBODY feels the need to feed the troll, and they just keep on doing what they ALWAYS seem to be doing. YES, there are some that just will NOT go away even if EVERYBODY and their brother ignores them.......but personally, I like to believe that their "reward" will come in the next life, where they will end up earning minimum wage moderating chat boards as a 'career', trafficked by THOUSANDS of idiots FAR worse than they EVER were...... SAVE FERRIS The sad part is how accurate that is.
There is always some "hero" who will try to correct the statements of the obvious troll and things go south from there.

I added a bit as I was thinking this question only applied to this place. I must admit that the current proprietor seems inclined to throw the occasional queanie, but that is in the nature the folk who own internet forums. But the the bit that has always struck me is the number of folk who want to rush off and complain about Christ knows what. They are the same sort who used to run off and tell tales to the teacher, but off course in those days we could always stick their heads down the school loo. But we can't do that now because we are in cyber space. It has not been all progress.
"Snitches get stitches" is for children. Adults know better than to try to get away with things they shouldn't be doing in the first place before blaming the reporter. After all, if you aren't doing anything wrong, the "snitching" would be futile. Have some integrity and stop blaming others for what you do. I was also part of The Resistance who vowed to never report based on ethical grounds of free speech. "Free speech" doesn't extend to private entities. You may as well go into someone's home and tell the host that you have the right to say whatever the fuck you want to.

You may as well go into someone's home and tell the host that you have the right to say whatever the fuck you want to. Free speech applies to the press. And though you have your "free speech" to delete free speech, when we posted places like IMDb where ideas and opinions are exchanged, we have certain expectations.
IMDb is part of the press. Sure, Stormfront can delete posts which are critical of BLM. And Daily Kos can attack Trump. But when we go to a mainstream site like IMDb, we expect fair play and not arbitrary censorship. In the case of IMDb the automated censorship was manipulated by sock accounts and serial reporting. This is why many of us pledged not to report.
You just said you "vowed to never report based on ethical grounds of free speech." Now you're saying it was to thwart the automated censorship. IMDb is a private entity, and as such, should never be expected to run their house how you see fit, as if you're somehow entitled because they let you post there.

Yes, like 3 times. My policy though is that if I report you I tell you I did it and why. I think two times were for blatant racism and once was for a picture of aborted babies. All on politics of course 😒

Why not ask Admin if anybody has ever reported people. Fun fact: Since this forum's inception on Feb 3, 2017, we have received 4,865 reports.

How do you know if you've been reported? Do you get notification? If so, then no.

I reported AnthonyRocks a couple of times. Myself and others would ask the guy to stop spamming the same threads over and over, he'd make excuses, and I'd hit report. I don't think I've ever reported anyone before or since. That guy just annoyed the shit out of me, as much as I wanted to sympathize with his impulse issues. I did try Ignore first, but it didn't hide his threads on my phone so I'd still have to comb through 6 topics on Film General about Neve Campbell's most unexpected nude scene to get to a thread that was actually about movies. To his and the Admin's credit, he started policing himself more. Sadly(?) he got himself banned over a different matter. Oh well.

Yes, once on the old boards. I reported that guy who said having sex with a child wasn't wrong as long as the child gave consent. Children can't give consent to something they don't understand. I'll put up with a lot, but not with endorsing or defending pedophilia.
