The "last films" in each franchise (we all know how that worked out), which do you prefer? I thought Freddy's Dead was too silly and slapstick compared to the first three, though I've never seen Jason Goes to Hell (it looks pretty bad)

Nightmare on Elm St is easily the most entertaining of those two franchises.

Freddy’s Dead was always more fun to me.

Jason Goes to Hell has some pretty remarkable gore and SFX work for a '90s studio horror. It also at least had a somewhat fresh approach to the material which, while it didn't quite work, was refreshing after the first 8 movies adhered to a similar formula. I don't love it but it's perfectly watchable.
Freddy's Dead feels like a Saturday Morning Cartoon from Hell, which seems like precisely the intention. It didn't work, but with better writing and better wit, it could've really been something. But there's not really much worth recommending in the final product.
So, gun (machete?) to head, I'll go with Jason Goes to Hell.

I’ll give the slight edge to Jason Goes to Hell. It felt less as a part of its own series more than Freddy’s Dead, but at least it had some cool gore effects.
Freddy’s Dead felt more like a parody of its own series and even the deaths went too goofy. The only one I liked was the chalkboard scratching head explosion scene.

From what I remember Jason as himself is barely even in Jason Goes to Hell. Doesn't he get blown up in the first act and then his heart is in another body for the rest of the movie or something? At least Freddy is in Freddy's Revenge a lot.

Even though both films are bad, I prefer Freddy's Dead. At least it had a few good qualities in it like the intro, the character of John Doe, Freddy's origins, and the outro.

The thing about Jason Goes To Hell is that it's a terrible Friday the 13th movie, but a decent sequel to The Hidden. You take Jason out entirely and I don't think it'd get as much hate.
Freddy's Dead is more tied to the rest of its franchise, which makes its continuity and tone problems harder to ignore. And in contrast to JGTH, which has everyone praising its death scenes and gore, FD only has three kills and two of them are kids jokes.

I remember Jason Goes To Hell better and it does have Freddy's glove.

From there he is a demonic worm passing from mouth to mouth until the final act where he comes back in his normal self in a ridiculous fashion. Part of the problem with Freddy’s Dead is that Freddy is basically ruined with what we see of him. He’s too much of a clown, and while he did act a bit silly in some of the previous films, it was never silly to that degree. At least Jason acted like Jason barring the worm form.

Jason wins this round for me. They are both my lesser favorites for me but Freddys Dead is pretty lame.

He stopped being scary after the third, but he still felt menacing a bit in 4 and 5.

To be fair though I am biased because Jason is a boring villain and always has been imo, but him not being in Jason Goes to Hell very much makes the movie even worse.

I do agree he was at his most scary in the first two. Also in New Nightmare. I’m more of a Freddy fan as well, but I like Jason too.
