For the 10 years or so I've been watching YouTube videos, I cant remember once where I saw an ad before or during a video that got me interested in buying whatever product they were advertising. With the exception of movie trailers, do you actually pay attention to the ads or just wait impatiently until they are over or ready to skip them?

I was expecting you to say about the increase of ads recently. It's becoming a problem. There's ads on every 10 minutes in a 60+ minute video.

Catman finds them annoying, especially those which cannot be skipped. But that's why they developed the mute button, is it not?

There are some videos with 2 unskippable 15second ads at the beginning. I just find it interesting on a commercial level. YouTube survives off advertisers paying big money to them (and subsequently content creators) to have their ads show up on videos. But everyone Ive talked to never pays attention to the ads so seems like a waste of their money.

Can’t say I have but they’re there to pay for the service so I try to not complain.

I reckon if I am getting the videos for free I should at least be prepared to watch the stuff that makes it possible. But I don't. I just skip them.
That said, every other ad on YouTube seems to be for cleaning wax out of ears and they are really disgusting and I don't feel bad about skipping them.

Guess what I learned yesterday? Ads in your recommended feed no longer have the option to be removed. Not only that but there are now ads for every two videos. This on the YT app. I haven't updated the app in 6 months.

Nope... other than the latest fad of 20 something hipsters telling us how rich they are & all you need to do is register for free about something somewhere.

I do, too, but I’ve noticed that lately I’m getting those non-audio, non-video ones. They’re just text-based ones at the start of the video and thankfully you can skip after a few seconds.

I wait until it says skip ads then I skip the ad or I mute it when you have to watch the whole ad. As you said with the exception of the occasional movie ad I've never paid attention to the ad much less been interested enough to buy the product. I've had a LOT of political ads begging for votes and contributions this summer.
Does anyone else ever scroll down to read the comments on videos that are reviews or creepy stories etc... that you really don't need to see the video to enjoy only to have an ad interrupt? Then you have to quickly scroll back up to hit skip ad? Man I hate that.
We Americans are at least used to ads being inserted into our programs because of network television. I bet it's even more annoying for those viewers who never had to watch commercials.

Always skip the ads. Its funny they are supposed to be targetted ads to your browsing interests, but I have never once seen a youtube ad and directly wanted to buy said product.
