Know who Sean Cunningham is? No, he was not Richie Cunningham's brother on "Happy Days" and then dissapears after the first season for no reason. Ever heard of a little movie called "Friday the 13th"? He directed it and by proxy helped launch the slasher craze of the 1980s. Doesn't look he directed anything else particularly noteworthy though.

Michael Cimino won an Oscar for Deerhunter, his career went downhill after "Heaven's Gate"

Robert Benton comes to mind. He still did some good movies after Kramer vs Kramer (Places in the Heart, Twilight) but nothing that ever really matched its success.

Kevin Costner - Dances With Wolves I've heard Open Range is good. It is, which is why I wouldn't include Costner on this list.

IMO probably Duncan Jones (Moon). I disagree: Source Code was good and Warcraft flawed but still entertaining, haven't seen anything else from him.
