I don't understand what the big deal with Carrie Coon is.
Can someone let me in on the secret?

I don't understand what the big deal with Carrie Coon is. Can someone let me in on the secret? I can’t speak for anyone else, but I became a fan of hers because of the HBO series “The Leftovers” (from the creator of Lost, incredible show). And I thought she was good in Gone Girl also.

I don't understand what the big deal with Carrie Coon is. Can someone let me in on the secret? She's funny, she's dramatic, she steals every scene she's in, she grounds the movie in reality as the voice of reason. What's not to like?

Okay, so I saw all that and didn't think WOW, what a great performance. At least you let me know I'm not missing something.

I liked Pike and Affleck quite a lot but thought that Coon walked away with the film, a funny and scene-stealing performance. I haven’t seen any of her TV work and she hasn’t made much impression in the couple of films I’ve seen her in subsequently.
At the time her performance was very well-reviewed and as I remember there was talk of a possible Oscar nomination, until the film pretty much crashed as a major contender.

It appears that I just didn't connect with her performance nearly as much as most people. I didn't think she "stole" scenes for example.

Edited to include Mommy. Dorval does indeed give the best leading performance I have seen from 2014, and Xavier Dolan’ s mother issues show no sign of being resolved.

Yeah... I saw most of his earlier films but I don’t think this one was ever screened in Singapore and my library never had a copy. I scrounged up a good copy online today. He’s not a subtle filmmaker, but there’s a lot of great stuff here. All three main performances are outstanding, but Dorval is just mesmerising.

The movie also hit home for me personally. You want to know what some of my early life was like, you just got a glimpse. The kitchen scene is as real as it gets. There is no exaggeration.

I’m very sorry that you had to go through anything like that. It was intense. Yes, that was a great scene.
