I know that killer shark/underwater terror movies are a dime a dozen, but it’s pretty amusing that Universal has never bothered trying to dig that particular franchise from the grave, considering that it’s an IP with some solid brand recognition. I mean, it and the original Star Wars are widely considered to have changed Hollywood forever. I guess they figure there’s no point, since they can’t possibly outdo the stupidity of the Sharknado movies, or something like The Meg.

That is kind of interesting. Seems like easy money at the very least.

At this point a sequel/remake/reboot of sorts would just have younger audiences thinking "Oh look a new shark movie, just like Meg!"

Well, methinks it's just a matter of time. I can't imagine them even attempting a shot-for-shot remake like Gus van Sant tried with Psycho. So maybe it'd be one of those 're-imagining' type of reboots.

I’m surprised it hasn’t gotten a remake. How did Piranha (a jaws ripoff) get a remake before Jaws?
