Oh man, this looks good. An adaptation for sure, but good. Definitely a theater movie for me.

My screen name is a character in the books (I wonder if John Farson will be mentioned). I don't have an issue with casting of certain characters, but I can't see it ever meeting my expectations.

Looks good, but can't really say I'm geared up for it. Cheers.

It does look pretty fucking good, though. McConaghey is going to be awesome as Walter O'Dim.

No Eddie. No Susannah. By what Wiki says there is a good chance if I go into this movie expecting to see the books on screen I will be disappointed. They say fans will know the movie is a sequel to the books. What do you think? link

Things have changed. A good idea. It keeps the people making this from having to film the books, decide what to cut and what to leave, meet everyone's expectations etc. I know how I've felt about adaptations of King's books. I read The Stand before I seen the miniseries, hated the mini. read It before I seen the miniseries, hated the miniseries. Both cases, the characters didn't match what I expected. Randall Flagg and Pennywise. If the movie doesn't start out with the Man in Black fleeing across the desert and the Gunslinger following, I'll be sorely disappointed. Greatest opening line since "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times".

Greatest opening line since "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times". It seems this movie has flashbacks. The scene in the trailer of Jake traveling through the door to Roland's world attests to that. It would only be proper to start the movie with a flashback to the opening of The Gunslinger. I will also be disappointed if it doesn't. The Stand is by far my favorite of King's stand alone books. I didn't find the mini-series as bad as you, I think, but have yet to find a movie adaptation of one of King's books that stands up to the novel. In The Stand mini-series I did find a gem though in Gary Sinise. I have loved that guy since. I am happy this movie is a sequel. I have always wanted more of The Dark Tower.

I always wanted more of TDT myself. Roland's back story (loved Wizard and Glass), the Fall of Gilead, Farson. They did that with the graphic novels, but I'm not a graphic novel type. here's a question, did you like now the novel ended? Many didn't...

As one who has never read any of the Dark Tower books, how lost do you think I will be watching this? Trailer looks good to me. The good news is I can't be disappointed if it doesn't live up to the books, but the bad news is I go into it not knowing anything but a minimum of details.

She read them once (i think so I would shut up about it) and she was wondering how well they will be able to explain the concept of the many worlds. To answer, I don't know.

I get that there is a series of Dark Tower books, and other ones of his that are linked to that universe in some way (It, Insomnia, etc.). I get the concept, I was talking more about the characters.

My wife was just asking the same question. There are major connection with TDT and other King books. Biggest being McConaghey's character, which is Randall Flagg from the Stand. But in TDT that are many worlds, one on top of another. Our world, our world with minor tweaks (the Kansas City baseball team are the "Monarchs") to The Gunslingers world, which is almost medieval. The worlds meet at THE Dark Tower, which is under attack. The series are a combination of lord of the Rings and a Spaghetti western. The characters are fairly straightforward. A Gunslinger from another world, a kid from our world and a supervillian, Walter O'Dim, aka Randall Flagg, aka Flagg the Enchanter (Eyes of the Dragon). Probably not explaining this well. And I do get a little exuberant over The Dark Tower.
