I have mixed feelings on Thought Slime. He's ok, but he's no Vaush. Or even Destiny for that matter.

"The true horror film (I use the abominable description) has its roots in the fairy tale, and the fairy tale has its roots in the soil of humanity...For the audience, this kind of film is a release--a bizarre world outside ordinary experience where the tensions are enjoyable." Boris Karloff

Nah.
The horror genre today has problems. But for completely different reasons:

Boris Karloff True. As a child, I relished the old-time fairytales - intriguing and scary! This probably led to my love of horror, as it generates the same feelings and undertones.

I think the biggest problem with horror is many upcoming directors often get their first start here, so you wind up either with directors still learning and perfecting their craft or "gun for hire" types that don't put much in much passion and are just doing it until they can get projects their more interested in. A lot of people might be surprised to find out James Cameron's first movie was actually "Piranha 3-D" (well sort of)

I'm always excited about the horror genre. You do get a lot of lazy, low budget crap, but then you also get The Shining, Midsommar, Candyman, etc.
We have some exciting new directors in Jordan Peele and Ari Aster. Get Out was great psychological horror and really had something to say, and I'm excited for his take on Candyman.
