I believe it was around 1985 when I saw the first Evil Dead on VHS.

I saw the original first in Oct/Nov 2015. I was new to this franchise at the time (though I heard about them) and I watched them all in order.

The original, followed by II, circa 2000/2001ish. Bought the VHS tapes at Walmart and was completely shocked and surprised that Walmart would sell such a thing. I had heard about the Evil Dead movies for years but didn't have access to it. Our local video store didn't keep a copy and it never played on cable. Needless to say, I loved every gory, gooey minute of both movies.

I believe it was Evil Dead II and I watched it for the first time on TV back in 2005.

Been too long ago. I think I saw the second first, then the third, then the first, but maybe not. I'm going to be honest, I partied a lot back in those days and my memory of a lot of it is kind of fuzzy.

Evil Dead 2, 8 years old. Older brothers. "If he wants to not-watch this...let him go!", great times, sleepless nights lol.

I think in 2001. My mom got me Army of Darkness on VHS for Christmas not knowing it was a sequel. Thought it was awesome. Then I got Evil Dead 1 and 2 on VHS.

It probably wasn't until the early 2000s. I feel like I had vague memories of watching parts of Army of Darkness on tv as a kid, but then later went back caught up the the first two movies on DVD, along with a bunch of Sam Raimi's other stuff.
The first movie is older than I am, so I would always have had to find it in a video store or something, and I always recall being drawn to the cover art for Evil Dead 2, but I think I first encountered Ash on the USA network or something battling skeleton armies.
I definitely went back and watched them all before and after I saw the musical in an off-broadway theater in New York in 2006. I've brought the musical up jokingly before, but it truly was a great deal of fun.

I watched them in order around 2005. Rented the first two at Hollywood Video (or was it Blockbuster?) because my brother was quoting Army of Darkness and it sounded fun, and because I enjoyed Sam Raimi's Spider-Man and Bruce Campbell's cameos. I rented AoD upon returning the first two.
I don't think I'd heard much about them before then, except I'd see the skull cover of II while browsing stores as a kid and it'd creep me out.

My first introduction to Ash was watching my friends play Evil Dead: Hail To The King on PS1, I tried to play the game myself but wasn't very good at it. The first movie I watched was Army of Darkness on TV.

Evil Dead 1...back in the 90s. I thought it was creepy enough but it wasn’t until the sequels that Ash got to god level status.
