While I find a few of Brando's movies wildly over rated, this isn't one of them. He is at his optimum best here. Though the film is essentially a defence for squealing, it's written and acted with such skill the politics become secondary. Brando at his best? Watch his perf after he finds the lad has killed his birds, there are few actors back then who could lay down such a raw broken heart. Then there's Steiger, during the "contender" speech in the car, it pays to watch Steiger as he listens to Terry pour out his heart, the realisation that he has ruined his brothers life is shatteringly written all over his face, outstanding. I haven't reviewed it yet so you have made my choice for tonight's viewing a simple one - cheers.
