With Rocky 4 getting a director’s cut and Zack Snyder’s Justice league and I think a few others, are Director’s cut gonna be bigger now or is this just gonna be a fad?

I can see it as it does the essentially what the studio wants. It’s like a “remake” because it’s old Hollywood movies being rehashed, with some new content, they don’t have to shoot anything new during the pandemic. It’s a win/win for everyone. It’s even better than a lame remake or reboot. I wish John Hughes were alive so we could get the epic 3.5 hour cut or Breakfast Club

Directors cuts are almost never an improvement, so I hope not.

Directors cuts are almost never an improvement, so I hope not. Some exceptions to the rule:
The Abyss - Extended Edition LOTR Extended Editions Blade Runner - The Director's Cut (and later Final Cut) Kingdom of Heaven - Director's Cut
Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Director's Cut

Mallrats (1995) and Payback (1999) Director's Cuts aren't that great.

The worst thing about directors cuts is when idiotic newbs go around spouting nonsense like "Da Star Wars Special Editions are SO much better. DERP!" and "Da Donner Cut really fixed Superman II. DERP!"

I dunno what the point of a Rocky IV directors cut is. Does he wanna get rid of the 80s cheese (the robot, training montage, Soviet Union allegory) and make it more "modern" and "serious" and try to turn into Cinderella Man or something? The 80s silliness is pretty much the best part of that movie. "If I can change, and you can change, we all can change!"

Director’s cuts are nothing new. We can thank Scott for that. The Kingdom of Heaven one is amazing.

Because the 80s silliness is pretty much the best part of that movie. "If I can change, and you can change, we all can change!" There's a part of me that feels like he's only doing it simply because of the movie turning 35 (for MGM, it's a chance to make money). I think Apocalypse Now - Final Cut was done simply to take advantage of the 40th anniversary of the movie last year (and to make Coppola relevant again). Do you think Stallone would really be doing this if it wasn't for this 35th anniversary fact? Why now for this instead of sooner?

Anyone ever see the Star Trek Director's Cuts? I know most of the original films got them. Wondering if they're worth it or not.
