Who here has seen it? What did you think?
I'm just watching it for the first time, which seems strange to me as DePalma is probably my favorite director.

It is too oddball for my taste, but I understand why many people like it.
I have mixed feelings about Brian DePalma as a director.
5.5/10

For me, the films greatest assets are the amazing, colorfully surreal sets - designed, no less, by Jack Fisk and his wife, Sissy Spacek! - and the "Beef" character, who I thought was hilarious. I liked some of the songs fine and the familiar plot did okay here. I thought it had run out of steam just a bit towards the end and Jessica Harper's presence is as lifeless as ever. She is always like this. I don't get it. But, all in all, I admired DePalma's honest attempt at something different. It wasn't bad. I wonder how much "Rocky Horror Picture Show" was influenced by this? -- **1/2

I don't think it is funny for example and I am not a fan of rock opera. I very much dislike Rocky Horror Picture Show, but that has more to do with that it is way too quirky and I think the "story" is really dumb. It is also visually ugly imo. ** is what my star rating is for Phantom of the Paradise. *1/2 for Rocky Horror Picture Show.
